Jimmy Mars Runner-Up at Red Cedar Speedway; Changes Weekend Schedule Plans

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) The Mars Racing team made the short tow to Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin on Friday evening, April 21 for the season-opening 'Randy Buss Icebreaker Classic.' Jimmy Mars won his heat race in preliminary action at his hometown racetrack and later started third on the grid in the $1,000 to win Late Model feature. Despite breaking a piece of spring steel early in the 20-lap distance, which lodged underneath his tire and caused steering woes to his MB Customs mount, Jimmy was able to soldier on to a strong runner-up effort behind only victor Mike Prochnow. Full results from the 'Randy Buss Icebreaker Classic' can be viewed online at www.redcedarspeedway.com.

Jimmy and his #28 team had planned on trekking to the states of Kansas and Oklahoma with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series on April 28-29, but inclement weather has already nixed those two $10,000 to win shootouts. Instead, Jimmy will stick around home with the unsettling weather throughout the Midwest and compete in weekly Late Model shows at Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin ($1,000 to win) on Friday and Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin ($1,200 to win) on Saturday. Additional information on both of these programs can be accessed by clicking on www.redcedarspeedway.com and www.cedarlakespeedway.com.

“I’d like to be out there racing every weekend and getting after it, but it just doesn’t make much sense to travel all around the country right now when the weather looks so bad,” commented Mars today. “We’ve had plans to run some bigger races already this spring, but the weather just hasn’t really cooperated. With as much work as we have here at the shop (building and preparing MB Customs Late Models and Open Wheel Modifieds), it’s hard to pull out of the driveway to drive eight or nine hours to a race that is showing an 80% chance of rain and just hope we get lucky with the weather. Our Super Late Model program is ready to rock and roll; we just need a little cooperation from Mother Nature.”
