SOMERSET, Ky. (May 1, 2017)—Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Super Late Model Series will return to action to open the Month of May for the first of two events. The first event will be on Saturday May 6th at the Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in Blue Ridge, Ga. The 30-lap main event will pay $3,000-to-win and $300-to-start. This was the event that was originally scheduled in April but was postponed due to inclement weather. With the purse and weekend bonuses, one driver who wins could possibly walk away with $3,700 if they win the dash, feature and set fast time.

This will mark the tour’s first-ever appearance at the historic facility that has seen many of the legends of southern dirt track racing folklore compete. The Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series Super Late Models will compete in a 30 lap, $3,000 to win contest. Also in action at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park on Saturday May 6th will be the track’s Crate Late Model, Hobby 602, Street Stock, Pony, and Front Wheel Drive divisions. This will also mark the first sanctioned Super Late Model event at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park since it reopened late in the 2016 season after being dormant for several seasons.

In addition to the $3,000 top prize for Saturday’s event, there will also be a $500-to-win Wildside Dash sponsored by Wildside Custom Trailers & Conversions of Blue Ridge, Ga. There will also be a $200 Overall Fast Time Award given by Chip Stewart Designs. There will also be a $200 Bonus from the Series for the highest finishing all Steel engine in the feature event. In addition, Brindle Brothers Auto Parts has put up $100 to anyone that breaks the Super Late Model track record.

The track will also host kid’s bike races during the intermission for three age groups with $40 going to each winner sponsored by the track and series.

Shane Tankersley of Morganton, Ga. won the most recent event on April 29th at the track in a thrilling race with David Payne of Murphy, N.C. Both drivers are expected to be in attendance along with the series regulars. Billy Ogle Jr. of Knoxville, Tenn. leads the series points by 20 markers over youngster Carder Miller of Salem, Va. There have been two different winners in two events on the tour as Shanon Buckingham of Morristown, Tenn. won the first event at Boyd’s Speedway and Kenny Collins of Colbert, Ga. won the April event at I-75 Raceway.

Activities for the Saturday May 6th event at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in Blue Ridge, GA will see the pit area open at 4:00 p.m., while the general admission area will open at 5:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m., with practice laps set to begin at 6:45, followed immediately by time trials and green flag racing. All times EDT. Ticket prices for the May 6th event at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, while a pit pass will be $35.

The Super Late Model portion of both program will be sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Series. The tire rule is as follows: Hoosier 1300, 1350 and 1600 and/or American Racer 44, 48 and 56. Those tire compounds are the only legal tire compounds allowed on the front and rear tires. Tire samples will be randomly taken by series officials at both events. The entry fee for Super Late Models will be $80.
