    Default 602 crate question

    We have a 602 crate we're running in an IMCA Sportmod. Had a rocker arm stud pull up from the head. I did finish the night with resetting the valve but i want to make it right. In this situation what would be the best way to fix this?

    I've been told to:
    1.) Put a new press in back in and it should hold.
    2.) Press the old on back where it needs to be or a new one and pin it.
    3.) Tap it to put a screw in stud in.

    I would rather tap it for a screw in stud which is the more reliable choice i think. I'm don't like the other ideas. This is a fully legal, 40 night crate and hate to condemn the thing or make it illegal but I'm not sure what else to do.

    1, Screw in stud is best but requires head removal to prevent the machining swarf from getting in the engine from machining the bosses and setting the stud height. Should do them all. Upgrade to 7/16 while your at it. Need's money....

    2, Press in a new one with an 1/8 roll pin. Can be done on engine but still requires careful chip control.
    Requires less money....

    3, Press in the old one. That one came out right? Prolly not gonna stay a second time as the press fit has been distorted.
    Likely to cost the most money repairing the engine when it fails...

    We had the same issue a few years back on a 602. We pressed a new one in and its still in there today and that was 6 years ago.

    to keep it GM 602 crate legal it has to have the GM press in stud
    some sanctions permit a repair ---but you should check before doing and document everything
    I cannot imagine any crate series or sanction permitting 16 screw-in studs

    usually a little Loctite and a clean hole will fix the problem

    make sure your springs are GM legal with correct installed height (1.700) and the problem should not continue
    If the engine is in question ---check max lift as well
    if the spring is binding it will pull the stud

    thanks for the replys!

    I got it repaired at a certified repair place. i could of done it myself but i wasn't going to give them (tech guy/sanction) a reason to question the motor. At least its on paper who did it.
