Schaeffer’s Iron-Man Championship Series to Sanction 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic at Ponderosa Speedway May 12

Somerset, KY (May 3, 2017)- Officials with the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series and Ponderosa Speedway are pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic will be sanctioned by the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series on Friday May 12. The event will be 30 laps and pay $3,088 to win and $250 to start. The event will also feature a full racing program for Open Wheel Modifieds, KDRA Super Stocks, Stock Four Cylinders, and Mini-Cup/Cyclones.

Of note, the track’s Pro (Crate) Late Model division will be combined with the Super Late Model not only for this event, but for the remainder of the 2017 racing season at the Jamie Stumph promoted facility.

The 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic will take place on Friday May 12 and will feature the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series in a full program of practice, time trials, qualifying heats, B-Mains, and the 30 lap, $3,088 to win/$250 to start 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic A-Main. Also in competition on Friday May 12 at the 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic will be the track Open Wheel Modifieds ($800 to win), KDRA Super Stocks ($750 to win), Stock Four Cylinders ($400 to win), and Mini-Cup/Cyclones ($100 to win).

There will be NO entry fee for Late Model competitors for this event, as the track will be sponsoring all entry fees in the Late Model division. Transponder timing/scoring is used at Ponderosa Speedway and the rental fee for a transponder is $10. Also, the track will be a bonus to the three highest finishing Crate engine powered Late Model competitors in the Big Daddy Classic A-Main ($100 extra to the highest finishing Crate, $75 extra to the second highest finishing Crate, and $50 to the third highest finishing Crate).

The tire rule for the 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600; American Racer 48 and 56. Also, any of the following Crate Late Model tire compounds that have been legal at Ponderosa Speedway in 2017 will also be legal for the Crate powered Late Model entries and they are as follows: Hoosier 1350, 1600, LM40, Crate 55, Crate 21, D21, FT200, FT400, FT600; American Racer 48 and 56.
Tire samples will be taken and any competitor that has tire samples taken will have their money held by the track and/or series until tire test results have been reported.

This event is held to honor the memory of former longtime Ponderosa Speedway competitor Late Model competitor Paul “Big Daddy” Feistritzer, who competed for many seasons in the Super Late Model in his popular #88 at the track and scored many event victories, but concluded his career racing in the Pro Late Model division prior to his untimely death after losing his battle with cancer. Victor Lee of Danville, KY was the winner of the inaugural event in 2016 and would claim the win over Todd Coffman, Hudson O’Neal, Matt Henderson, and Jeremy Hines.

Activities for the 2nd Annual Big Daddy Classic at Ponderosa Speedway on Friday May 12 will see the pit area and general admission area gates open at 4:00 p.m. The drivers meeting will take place at 7:00 p.m., followed immediately by practice, Late Model time trials, and green flag racing. Ticket prices for the 2nd Annual Big Daddy in the general admission area will be $20 for adults, with children ages 12 and under free, while a pit pass will be $35.
