Austin Hubbard Surges to Hagerstown Checkers

Seaford, Delaware (05/08/17) – Austin Hubbard parked his Mid-Coastal Siding #11 Trinity Logistics/ Rocket XR1 Chassis/ Cornett Racing Engine Super Late Model in Victory Lane for the first time in 2017 on Saturday night. Hubbard’s trip to Victory Lane came at the legendary Hagerstown Speedway.

On Saturday evening the team made the last minute decision to travel to Hagerstown Speedway (Hagerstown, Maryland) to compete in a Weekly Racing Series Event. Twenty-one entries took part on the event, which was held atop a lightning-fast track surface.

Via preliminary action, Austin earned the 6th-starting spot for the finale. As the 25-lap feature went green Hubbard quickly worked his way to the lead. Once out front he cruised to the comfortable victory, although he did narrowly avoid disaster. On the cool-down lap, following the checkered flag, the right-rear tire on his entry detonated, taking part of the body with it.

“Luck definitely was on our side tonight, because in the middle of turns 1 and 2 after the checkered flag the right-rear tire exploded,” said Hubbard. “It seems like too many times we’ve had that happen before the checkered flag, so it’s nice to have it happen after it for a change. We didn’t have a good redraw, but we had a great car, so luckily our starting spot didn’t matter.”

He concluded by noting, “So many people help us on this car including Mid-Coastal Siding, Trinity Logistics, Salisbury Door and Hardware, and Hoosier Tire. I greatly appreciate all of these sponsors as well as my crew, my family, and sponsors.”

Andy Anderson, Kyle Lee, Gary Stuhler, and D.J. Myers rounded out the Top 5.

Hubbard will look to continue his momentum this weekend, May 11-12 as he takes part in a pair of Tri-State Challenge events. Thursday night will take the team to Georgetown Speedway (Georgetown, Delaware) for a $4,000-to-win affair, while Friday night will find Hubbard in action at Potomac Speedway (Budd’s Creek, Maryland), where a $3,022-to-win top prize will be on the line for the victor of the Ernie Jones Memorial.
