The event is being contested in memory of Mike Roland. Mr. Roland, or “Hairy Mike” as he was known to most people in the racing community, had been around racing all his life, beginning with his exploits as a child when he would tag along to the races with legendary Northern Kentucky car owner Morgan Chandler and former World 100 winner Floyd Gilbert. He would later work for many seasons as a track official at Florence Speedway. After some time away from the track, Roland would return as an official with the original Battle of the Bluegrass Series and would also work as a track official at Bluegrass Speedway, Barren County Speedway, Ponderosa Speedway, and Richmond Raceway. His many jobs have included things such as traveling around and putting up promotional posters, track preparation, tow-vehicle and recovery, line-up person, and the deliverer of concession items. Mr. Roland was always willing to help any person, race fan, or race team and was also around to greet everyone with a warm smile and hearty hello and welcome. During the later stages of 2016, Mr. Roland’s health took a turn for the worse and he would leave a loving wife, daughter, and a huge following of friends behind when he departed this life in late 2016.

The entry fee for the Super Late Model division will be $100 and the tire rules will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600 or American Racer 48 and 56. Also, Super Late Model teams will need to get their transponders for the series and the rental fee is $10 (or a $5 scoring fee if a driver has their own transponder). The weight rule for open engine machine is 2,350 lbs. The series will also pay a $200 bonus to the highest finishing driver using all Steel/Spec engine and a $200 bonus to the highest finishing driver using a CT525 engine.
