CARNESVILLE, GA – For the first time ever, the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series South East Region will take on the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series in a two-race Shootout with a pair of 40-lap $4,000-to-win, $400-to-start races this Friday night at Carolina Speedway in Gastonia, NC and on Saturday night at Lavonia Speedway in Lavonia, GA.

Officials from both series agree the co-sanctioned events show something that has been missing for a long time in dirt late model racing, and that is a spirit of co-operation and working together for the betterment of the sport.

“It seems that the Carolina Clash and the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series have long been thought of as rivals in the region,” ULTIMATE Founder and CEO Stan Lester said. “Today’s announcement ushers in a new era of co-operation between the two groups.”

Carolina Clash Co-Owner Bruce Arrants shared Lester’s enthusiasm of the two series getting together for this special weekend of super late model racing.

“It’s just the right thing to do,” Arrants said. “We all need to work together rather than against each other to continue to be successful in this region. I was thrilled when ULTIMATE Series Director Kelley Carlton and I sat down and talked about working together. I think this is a great thing for racing, as well as for our racers, promoters and fans.”

The top ten point drivers for the ULTIMATE SE Region are Jonathan Davenport, Jason Welshan, Autolite/Fram/DirtOnDirt.com Rookie of the Year point leader Tyler Millwood, three-time champion Casey Roberts, defending and two-time champion Dennis Franklin, three-time 2017 winner Brandon Overton, 2011 Champion Chris Ferguson, Brett Hamm, Michael Page, and G.R. Smith.

The Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series top ten point drivers are Zack Mitchell, Johnny Pursley, Michael Brown, G.R. Smith, Anthony Sanders, Jeff Smith, Scott Shirey, David Yandle, Dennis Franklin and Ben Watkins.

Drivers will earn points in both series at both events. Each race will utilize a Hoosier 1350 and 1600, or American Racer 48 and 56. Both series use a similar format for setting the field which will also be used at these two races. The only difference will be the starting field of 24 will allow for two point provisional starters for each series.

Otherwise, event rules will be governed by the respective lead series. The Carolina Speedway race on Friday night will be officiated by Carolina Clash Officials, and the Saturday night Lavonia Speedway race will be officiated by ULTIMATE SE Officials.
