Casey's Armed Forces Night This Saturday At Macon Speedway (Macon, IL) Macon Speedway will look to keep the early season momentum going with Casey's General Stores "Armed Forces Night" this coming Saturday, May 20. It's a night that will honor military with free admission for active and retired military members with valid ID. The Midwest Street Stock Championship tour is the headliner with the Dean Garland Classic 40 lapper. For the MSSC Street Stocks, it will be just the second event in their young history, with the first coming at Lincoln Speedway on April 21. At that event, 20 of the toughest Street Stock wheelmen in the midwest, put on a great show that saw the leaders racing for the top spot three-wide for several laps. It was a show to remember and a great start for the series. Lovington, IL's Jeremy Nichols eventually claimed the win over Dave Crawley, Jr. Luke Gash, Darrell (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word), and Nick Macklin were the rest of the top five. Brian Dasenbrock leads Shawn Ziemer and Jason Scrimpsher in the local division standings. In the UMP Pro Late Model class, Tommy Sheppard, Jr. sits atop the standings with a first, second, and third place finish before a grinding crash this past Saturday night. The driver to watch, recently, has been Springfield, IL's Jake Little. Little has won the last two events in convincing fashion and would likely be leading the points had he not missed the April 22 event. Cody Maguire sits an impressive second in points, while Jeff Reed, Jr., Matt Taylor, and Little complete the top five. The Billingsley Elite Wash Modified class battle is a tight one at the top, early this season, as a father/son combo has been strong early. Leading the way is Pekin, IL driver Austin Lynn. Lynn has had an average finish of 2.3 over the first three weeks of racing at the 1/5-mile. His dad, Brian, a many time track champion at Lincoln, is second in points, while last year's champ, Curt Rhodes is third. Danny Smith and Alan Crowder round out the top five in the standings. Brian Lynn, Mike Harrison, and Rodney Standerfer have won features so far this season. So far this campaign, 32 different UMP B-Mod drivers have been on track at Macon, making it the top division, car count wise. Last year's champion, Mt. Olive, IL's Tim Han(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word), is leading the points but had Tom Riech and Jerry Thompson right behind him. Cody Stillwell, who won the opener, is fourth in points, while Tim Riech is fifth. Han(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) has claimed two of the three features after winning all 16 last season. In the UMP Hornet class, Dustin Reed leads the points by six over Cook Crawford. Reed, driving the car that Tony Reed claimed the championship with last season, has not won a feature this year but has been close. Ryan Cantrell, Marty Sullivan, and Adam Webb complete the top five in points. Cantrell and Webb have each won two features. Macon Speedway is carrying momentum after completing four out of the five scheduled events so far. The only rainout was the Lucas Oil Late Models on April 29 and that event has been rescheduled for Tuesday, July 25. In the four events held this season, crowds have been filling the stands to see new excitement that is brought to the plate every night by Macon's talented drivers. This Saturday, pits will open at 3:00, grandstands at 5:00, pill draw will end at 5:50, hotlaps begin at 6:00, and racing will take the green at 7:00. Grandstand admission will be $12 for adults and kids 11 and under are free.
