Jason Hughes Outruns Rain for 150th USMTS Triumph

Westville, Oklahoma (05/23/17) – While the weekend’s tripleheader may have been bookended by rainouts, Jason Hughes took advantage of the lone-race opportunity to record his 150th career win on Friday night. He powered his Henryetta Ford #12 Hughes Chassis/ Mullins Racing Engine Modified to the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) victory at I-94 Speedway.

With Mother Nature winning the first night of the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) RHRSwag.com Northern Region presented by Summit Racing Equipment on Thursday, Jason Hughes headed to I-94 Speedway (Fergus Falls, Minnesota) on Friday for the 3rd Annual Summersota Nationals presented by Barry Construction.

Passing six cars in his 8-lap heat race, Jason reeled in a 3rd-place finish, positioning him 8th on the starting grid for the feature. Pacing his way to the front, Hughes overtook race-leader Jacob Blees on lap 25 en route to his fourth victory on the season. Zack VanderBeek, Johnny Scott, Cade Dillard, and Stormy Scott rounded out the Top 5.

“Getting the eight staring spot for the feature in the redraw wasn’t the ideal situation, but luckily we had such a good car that it didn’t matter,” said Hughes. “Those late-race cautions forced me to get up on the wheel so that Zack [VanderBeek] couldn’t slip past. It’s great to be back in Victory Lane and to get our 150th USMTS win is pretty cool. This coming weekend we’ll look to add some more wins to the tally.”

Saturday night’s event at Devil’s Lake Speedway (Crary, North Dakota) fell victim to rain.

Jason leads the USMTS Northern Region point standings. Complete results and the latest standings can be found at www.USMTS.com .

The upcoming Memorial Day weekend, May 26-28, will take the team into battle in another USMTS tripleheader. Action opens on Friday night at Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin) before moving to Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota) on Saturday evening. The weekend draws to a close on Sunday evening at Upper Iowa Speedway (Decorah, Iowa). For more information on the events, please visit www.USMTS.com .
