    Default Iron-Man Late Models/Modifieds Collide at Smoky Mtn. Speedway 6/3-Iron-Man Classic

    Iron-Man Late Models and Modifieds Collide at Smoky Mountain Speedway June 3rd for Iron-Man Classic

    SOMERSET, KY (May 30, 2017)—The first of a busy couple of weeks for the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model Series and the Brucebilt Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series will come up this Saturday June 3rd at the Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. The 13th Annual Iron-Man Classic will feature both tours for a big night of racing action as the Super Late Models will race for $5,000-to-win while the Modifieds will race for $1,500-to-win.

    This will mark the first of two visits for the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Super Late Models and the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modifieds and the second time this season the two tours have competed together.

    The Super Late Models of the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Championship Late Model tour will race 40 laps for $5,000-to-win and $450-to-start while the Brucebilt Performance Open Wheel Modifieds will race 20 laps for $1,500-to-win and $150-to-start. The Sportsman Late Models will also compete for $1,000-to-win.

    There have been four different Iron-Man Late Model winners so far this season. Shanon Buckingham of Morristown, Tenn. won the Cabin Fever 40 race in January while Kenny Collins of Colbert, Ga. won the series event at I-75 Raceway in April. David Payne of Murphy, N.C. won the series event at Blue Ridge Motorsports Park May 13th and Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.V. won the most recent series event during the Mike Roland Memorial on May 20th at Richmond Raceway.

    In two Iron-Man Modified Series events this season, there have been two different winners as Brad Hall of Knoxville, Tenn. won the Cabin Fever race in January while Clayton Miller of Elkton, Ky. won the Mike Roland Memorial at Richmond Raceway on May 20th.

    In three Super Late Model events held so far at Smoky Mountain Speedway there have been three different winners. Dale McDowell of Chickamauga, Ga. scored the $7,500 payday on April 1st while Brandon Sheppard of New Berlin, Ill. scored the $7,500 payday on April 22nd and Brandon Overton claimed the $10,000 World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series victory on May 13th. Kyle Strickler of Mooresville, N.C. scored the $2,000 payday with the Southeast Dirt Modified Series on April 1st. This will mark the second Modified event this season at Smoky Mountain Speedway.

    On Saturday June 3rd the pit gates will open at 3:00 pm while the grandstand gates and tier parking gates swing open at 4:00 pm. The drivers meeting is set for 6:30 pm and hot laps will roll out at 7:00 pm. Adult general admission is $15.00 for this event while adult tier parking is $20.00 and pit passes will be $35.00.

    The entry fee for the Super Late Model division will be $100 and the tire rules will be as follows: Hoosier 1350 and 1600 or American Racer 48 and 56.

    The entry fee for the Brucebilt Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified division will be $50 and the tire rule will be as follows: Front- Medium, A40S, M-30s, A40, Hard, H40, & M-60 (siping allowed on front due to carry-over from 2016 season); Rear- Hoosier A40S, M-30S, A40, Hard, H40, M-60 and American Racer Hard and Extra Hard with no grooving allowed. The only tires that can be siped on the rear is the Hoosier M-60 and American Racer Extra Hard.

    The Late Model car and driver weight rules for this event will be as follows: 2350 lbs. for an Open Motor, 2300 lbs. for a Steel Block/Aluminum Head - Spec Motor Only (8" spoiler allowed, 12" sides), 2250 lbs. for a CT525 Motor (8" spoiler allowed) and 2250 lbs. for an all Steel Motor or Crate Motor (8" spoiler allowed, 12" sides). There will be a pound per lap burnoff plus 5 lbs. in Heats, Last Chance races and in the Feature.
