Tennessee Modifiieds
I was a modified wrench monkey in East TN in the late 90's- mid 00's. Back then, multiple tracks around here would have 20 UMP mods on any given Sat. night. A major race would bring 30-40+ mods. In the last 10 years I've kept track with area SLM''s, but haven't seen mods like I used to. This weekend I went to Smoky Mtn Speedway for Iron Man Mod Division. The feature had 9 OWM's. I'm just wondering what has led to the decline of OWM's in East Tn. Looks like touring mod series get good counts in KY and further north, and I know OWM can be big in FL. I hate to see em disappear here in E. TN.
Sorry if I'm asking a question that's been asked on here before. I'm just hoping something can bring em back.

can speak to specifics, but I can comment that costs for Mods has gone up, and the late models seem to be the preffered option in East TN. I know GA almost has no mods any more.......

mods started out as a affordable class and soon escalated into a class almost as costly as a full blown late model.

tennessee modifieds
Basic Problem---UMP! A UMP modified is basically a Super Late Model with five inch springs ,eight inch tires, and $500 ea., or more-shocks. If when the modifieds started around here, the tracks had went with IMCA rules, maybe there would be more interest now, don't know.
