Shane Clanton Tames the Taz; Preps for the Dirt Late Model Dream

Zebulon, Georgia (06/05/17) –Shane Clanton increased his 2017-win tally to six behind the wheel of his Weldbank Energy #25 Super K Express/ Capital Race Car/ Penske Shocks/ Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model on Friday evening at Tazewell Speedway. The World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series victory was worth $10,000.

“We were just biding our time waiting for the checkered flag to come out,” said Clanton. “Our car has been working real good the past month and that just shows what hard work that Penske and Ronny Crooks, Aaron and Nick and all of them guys have done to get me back on top here. Thanks to them and all of my great sponsors for their support.”

Shane Clanton picked back up with the World of Outlaws (WoO) Craftsman Late Model Series on Friday night at Tazewell Speedway (Tazewell, Tennessee) with the Ray Varner 50. In a field of 21 entires, Clanton followed up the second fastest time overall behind Jimmy Owens with a heat race win. Earning the 2nd-starting position for the feature via the redraw, Shane took control of the lead on the opening lap and never let go, leading all 50 circuits en route to his sixth win of the season and a $10,000 payday. Jimmy Owens, Ricky Weiss, Chris Madden, and Brandon Sheppard completed the Top 5 finishers.

Saturday night took the team to Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Georgia) for the 3rd annual Billy Clanton Classic, which paid homage to Shane’s late father. Starting the night by setting fast time in qualifications, Clanton backed up his strong start by winning his heat race. The redraw for the 50-lap finale awarded him with the 3rd-starting spot for the 50-lap affair. He would race in the Top 5 throughout the finale before streaking under the checkered flag in the 4th position behind Brandon Sheppard, Tyler Erb, and Eric Wells.

Despite not getting the win, Clanton was all smiles after the feature was completed as he thought about his late father.

“It’s hard to be up here and him not being with me and he has been gone for a couple of years now,” said Clanton. “As long as we can live his life like we’re doing and just honor him as much as we can. He’s done a lot for the racing in the south east. It’s an honor to be here tonight.”

Shane has climbed to fourth in the latest World of Outlaws point standings. Full results from the weekend are available at www.WoOLMS.com .
