Default Brucebilt Iron-Man Modifieds Visit Richmond Raceway for Butch Shay Memorial 6/17

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Brucebilt Iron-Man Modified Series Visits Richmond Raceway for $2,100 Butch Shay Memorial June 17th

SOMERSET, KY (June 12, 2017)—The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will race the fifth event of the 2017 campaign this Saturday June 17th at the Yantz-family promoted Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Ky. and also feature the largest payoff of the season.

Richmond Raceway will present the Third Annual Butch Shay Memorial on Saturday June 17 with the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series in action racing for $2,100-to-win and $150-to-start. Along with the Iron-Man Modified Series, the Super Late Models will race for $2,100-to-win and a complete weekly show for the KDRA Super Stocks and the Four Cylinders.

Richmond Raceway presents this event for the third time to honor the late Butch Shay, who started his racing career in 1963 and concluded his racing career in 2013, having a career that spanned for 51 racing seasons and saw the likable driver from Louisville, KY race in six different decades and truly see how the sport of dirt track racing has evolved from its humble beginnings to the ultra-modern race cars that compete in modern times. Mr. Shay was a racer that normally competed at the local and regional level and was always a force to be reckoned with at whatever race track he took his driving talents to for competition and Richmond Raceway was one of his favorite tracks at which he liked to compete. Mr. Shay was honored by the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in 2015 as he was inducted into the Hall of Fame as a lifetime contributor to the sport of dirt track racing and was inducted into the Kentucky Motorsports Hall of Fame in 2016.

Jimmy Lennex Jr. of Maysville, Ky. leads the track point standings at Richmond Raceway over Jeff Watson of Campbellsville, Ky., Jimmy Robinson of Richmond, Ky., John Jackson of Cynthiana, Ky. and Zach Powers of Taylorsville, Ky.

There have been four different winners in four events held so far this season. Brad Hall won at Boyd’s Speedway on January 28th, Clayton Miller was victorious at Richmond Raceway May 20th, Shon Flanary won on June 3rd at Smoky Mountain Speedway and Keith Smith won the most recent series event during the Big Daddy Classic at Ponderosa Speedway June 10th. Shon Flanary of Surgoinsville, Tenn. leads the point standings with just 20 markers over Blake Brown of Corbin, Ky.

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series will sanction the Open Wheel Modified portion of the racing program. The entry fee for Modified competitors will be $50 (transponder fee is included in entry fee). The Modified tire rule for the event will be as follows: Front- Medium, A40S, M-30s, A40, Hard, H40, & M-60 (siping allowed on front due to carry-over from 2016 season); Rear- Hoosier A40S, M-30S, A40, Hard, H40, M-60 and American Racer Hard and Extra Hard with no grooving allowed.
