    Kentucky Doubleheader at Ponderosa and Florence up next for Southern Nationals Bonus Series

    BRASSTOWN, N.C. – June 19, 2017 – The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuels and Tennessee RV will invade the Bluegrass State for the Kentucky Doubleheader on June 23 and June 24 at Ponderosa and Florence Speedways.

    On Friday June 23rd the tour invades the Jamie Stumph-promoted Ponderosa Speedway, the first of two season visits for the 40-lap, $4,000-to-win and $400-to-start 25th Annual Kentucky Klassic. The Silver Anniversary of the event will also feature the Crate Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, KDRA Super Stocks, Four Cylinders and Mini Cups. In the previous Spring Nationals Series event earlier this season, Brandon Overton captured the $4,000 payday. The pit gates open at 4:00 pm on Friday June 23rd with the driver’s meeting at 7:00 pm and hot laps roll out at 7:15 pm. Adult general admission is $20.00 while adult pit passes are $35.00.

    Also, as part of the 25th Annual Kentucky Klassic at Ponderosa Speedway, all Super Late Model drivers will receive a free meal from the Ponderosa Speedway concession area, consisting of a cheeseburger, fries, and drink. This is courtesy of series sponsors Friends of Monticello, KY and Rounders Racing of Stanford KY.

    On Saturday June 24th the series will visit the King Family-promoted Florence Speedway for the first-ever series visit. The 50-lap main pays $10,000-to-win and $500-to-start. In addition to the Southern Nationals Bonus Series Late Models, the Summit Racing Equipment American Modified Series will also be on tap racing for $1,500-to-win while the Pure Stocks and Hornets will also be on hand. The Spring Nationals Series visited Florence Speedway in April of this season and Brandon Overton won a fantastic feature and the $5,000 payday. The pit gates open at 4:00 pm on June 24 while the main and back gates open at 5:00 pm. Hot laps will roll out at 5:30 pm with racing at 7:00 pm. Adult general admission is $25.00 and adult pit passes are $40.00.

    In three series events, there have been three different winners. Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y. won the season opening Shamrock 40 at Boyd’s Speedway in March. Tyler Carpenter of Parkersburg, W.V. won the Mike Roland Memorial at Richmond Raceway in May and Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga. won the most recent series event on June 2 at Tri-County Race Track. David Payne of Murphy, N.C. leads the series point standings by four markers over defending series champion Donald McIntosh. Jamie Oliver of Murphy, N.C. sits third in the standings with Brandon Overton of Evans, Ga. and Joey Standridge of Tellico Plains, Tenn. fourth and fifth respectively.

    At each Schaeffer’s Oil Spring Nationals, Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals and Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series event in 2017, the highest finishing CT525 engine in the main event will receive a $200 bonus and the highest finishing Steel Head/SPEC engine will also receive a $200 bonus.

    Each night’s events will feature a complete show of Practice, Time Trials, Heat Races, Last Chance Races and the main event. The entry fee is $100 at all series events plus transponder rental that will be used to time and score the cars (per series rules). The tire rule for the Ponderosa and Florence events will be as follows: Hoosier- 1350 (LO3), 1600 (LO6), LM 40; American Racer- 48, 56. Tires will also be checked for soaking and by durometer for hardness before each car goes on the track for qualifying or any racing action.

    The car and driver weight rules for this event will be as follows: 2350 lbs. for an Open Motor, 2300 lbs. for a Steel Block/Aluminum Head - Spec Motor Only (8" spoiler allowed, 12" sides), 2250 lbs. for a CT525 Motor (8" spoiler allowed) and 2250 lbs. for an all Steel Motor or Crate Motor (8" spoiler allowed, 12" sides). There will be a pound per lap burnoff plus 5 lbs. in Heats, Last Chance races and in the Feature.
