Jimmy Mars Fourth in $50k Modified Masters; Gopher 50 at Deer Creek Next

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars unloaded his own #2 Open Wheel Modified from June 15-18 at the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin for the 'Modified Masters,' which was sanctioned by the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS). Things started on Thursday night with a $3,000 to win preliminary shootout. Jimmy ran third in his loaded heat race and was leading his B-Main until an incident with a lapped car took him out of contention to earn a transfer spot into the 40-lap main event.

On Friday evening at Cedar Lake, Jimmy placed third in his first heat race, while he won his second and final prelim of the night. After earning the second most points through heat race action, Jimmy ran fourth in the dash to claim the outside of the second row for the start of Saturday's 70-lap headliner, which boasted a whopping $50,000 payday. During the course of the 'Modified Masters,' which spilled over into Sunday afternoon due to rain showers, the Menomonie, Wisconsin star vaulted to as high as second and battled for the lead at one point before settling for a strong fourth place effort behind only winner Ryan Gustin, Rodney Sanders, and Zack VanderBeek. Full results from the extended weekend at CLS can be accessed online at www.usmts.com.

The Mars Racing team is now scheduled to enjoy the next couple of weekends off from racing action, but they will be hard at work in the shop and getting their new transporter ready to hit the road. Jimmy’s next scheduled event will be the annual running of the ‘Gopher 50’ at Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minnesota on Saturday, July 8. The World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series will once again preside over the storied event, which boasts a $10,000 winner’s check.
