    Default KSE Tandem X pump

Has anyone had to run a smaller pill than what KSE recommends to get your pressure between the 6-9 psi? I believe they recommend a .220 pill. Mine has a .200 pill and has 4psi at 3500 rpm. Kse said it should be around 6psi at 3500. Just wondering if something's wrong with my pump or if I just need a smaller pill. This is on race gas.

Mine has a .200 and I am at 4psi, which is what I want.I would run what ever gave me the pressure I wanted and not worry about it.

Is yours at 4 psi at idle or at 3500 rpm?

remove the pill etc and run a external regulator.

The regulator goes in the return line, take the pill , poppet & spring out of the pump. Have ran them this way for years.

Must use a bypass style regulator.

Thanks. I believe that's the route we are going to go.

Mine is at 0 at idle and 4lbs at wot. When we were on the dyno I jet the carb at 4lbs.Lower pressure is better as long as you don't lean it out.

Ok here's my scenario. Pump has worked fine for me all year. 2 pound at idle and roughly 7 as best as I can see on the track. Last week I was warming the car up before my heat and it idled for roughly 10 minutes and shut off. I fired it back up and noticed I had 0-1 pound of pressure at idle. Brought it home, got it fired up and it was at 0-1 pound at idle and about 4psi at 3500 rpm. So I decided to eliminate the pill spring and poppet and plumb in a regulator. At 3500 rpm it will now come up to 9psi but it fluctuates. It won't stay consistent. Let it come back to an idle (1600 rpm) and it goes back to 0 and will eventually shut off. Is it likely that my pump needs rebuilt? I bought it used and I don't know what it's life was before I got it.

I'd check the gauges for accuracy 1st.
    Then the fuel filter.
Then all the lines for damage or wear.
    Then the pump for volume.

Pick up line on top of the fuel cell was not tight. Was sucking air.

A perfect example of why you don't overlook the simple stuff.

We had another freak thing with a KSE pump last week. The set screws that hold the pulley on the pump backed out, & the key worked its way out. The pulley was slipping on the shaft & only driving the pump under a light load, had 7 psi idling & zero at the end of the straightaway . Unfortunately by the time we found the problem it cost us at least 1 piston. Another thing to add to the checklist when bolt checking.

It's amazing the things that work loose on a race car!
