    Default Sep 3 frustration

So get this... Here in northern/central Al. this Sunday there will be four races going on at the same time ,with mostly the same classes, and roughly 220 miles between the two farthest apart. Its absurd if you ask me! Moulton (right at hour from home) is usually a Friday night program that elects to run SLM for $2k on Sunday. Ecm speedway (I live so close you can tell what class is running from my back porch) usually runs Saturday night but they've elected to finish out their points season on Sunday and paying Limited cars $1500. Duck River( just shy of two hour drive) , who hasn't ran a regular schedule this year, is where I originally planned to take in some Slm action, $3k to win Sunday. Now, Talladega ( Hour and 10 mins out) jumped on the Sunday band wagon too paying SLM $2k. So I just wanted to tell all these promoters that may run across this, Thank you! Thank you for helping me make an easy decision to make a totally different two hour haul to The Mag for the Street Stock Nationals. Im thankful for options but this one is way overboard. All four tracks should be happy if they clear fifty cars. I'm headed to spend my $$ with Johnny Stokes boys...

You might as well include Rome too it's only about 2 hours away as well. I know it's frustrating as hell but the tracks in Alabama, middle Tn, north Ga, And Ms have cut each other's throats for years every time one plans a race 6 others will jump on board to try to f up the others. Seen where Smoky Mountain done moved a SNBS race from Sept 16 to the following week knowing d@mn well it's the cotton Pickin 100 at Magnolia just wait 10 more tracks across the south will throw up somekind of event to screw up a good weekend if nothing else somebody will race lawn mowers or garden tillers across a corn field just for $hit$ and giggles knowing they walked on somebody else's event.

That race will have little to no impact on Magnolia. They had to get it off that weekend because of UT football and the Rod Run in Pigeon Forge.

After thinking about it I figure due to Alabama-Florida State game this Saturday night and high school football starting up on Friday nights would be a good reason d@mn near every track in the state of Alabama is running this sunday. I understand about SMS wanting to get another date due to the Rod Run but I'm like Chris D@mmit boy it's frustrating

Up north here I saw the Friday race at Farmer City is an ALMS race, but there is also an ALMS race the same night, for the same pay ($5K), in Ohio (Attica?). I thought it was weird for any series to have/sanction races on the same night at two different tracks. I guess as long as there are enough cars to go around, but for fans, it's hard to say.

I did want to partially hi-jack the thread since it sounds like you all are from down south...I saw a picture of a Steve Russell (#72) who recently won a Crate LM feature at Moulton (I believe). Is he the same Steve Russell that used to race for a team out of Tupelo, Mississippi? They were a great bunch of guys!

Off topic: My wife and I got married in '95 and took a road trip for our "honeymoon." We decided Tupelo would be our final destination. Once there, we searched for t-shirts or something to commemorate our visit. We ran into a gal working at a small racing collectibles shop (Racin' Jason's?) who said the store she worked at in the local mall had just what we were looking for.....but they were unfortunately closed. This gal, with one foot in a cast, escorted us to the mall, unlocked the store, and sold us two shirts! Being from the Chicagoland area, I knew we most likely would have never received such service up by us. The hospitality was unbelievable and something I fondly remember to this day!

The south takes a lot of pride in being a hospitable bunch, Jet! Lol. That does seem odd that the same sanction would operate at two places on the same night. Maybe its a typo or misunderstanding but I have no doubts that the mid west could pull that off. That being said, there is no way that this region of country could make it happen. These places that Ive mentioned will not have full fields. Id just about bet pay days with any one that wanted a go at it.

One man gang, maybe we will bump into one other at the track some day. I think Tst and Duck river put on good enough show they could compete with ft ball. And of course drrp actually being in TN I doubt there as many bamers up there. I myself wouldnt care if there was never another ft ball game played!!

Chris, I get what your view is on this. For us here at TST, we have been asked, begged, and been requested to have a make-up race or 2 due to having 9 rain outs so far in 17. Especially critical in points for our Nesmith classes. If I was a non-tracking working fan I would think that there are too many Sunday night shows. We had this in the works for a coupla weeks, like it or not football these days kinda dictates when tracks run, close for the season and so on. Ain't pretty but it is what it is.

We will have more than 50 cars. Also I believe that the tracks mentioned will have some nice crowds. If I was not doing what I do at TST, I would pick a race that has the Supers as the top drawing card.

On the plus side, it gives more drivers a decent chance to earn some good money.

TST last night had 89 cars pit side with 22 Supers, including Clint Smith and Oregon's Brad Mayea in the house, Jason Hiett and Austin Horton had a good one going. Track was racy from the very bottom to the top. Program was done at 11:01pm.

Not thumbing any noses, just mentioning that some predicted that our race would have less than 50 cars total, that we were scheduling on top of folks and so on. I sure as &%@# don't think of myself or any involved at TST as celebs or anything else beside normal 6-pack, joe the plumber race fans. Sorry you think that way BK, I feel that myself and most here at TST are way down to earth. Hey Bk, come to TST anytime and the Tix, pit passes and the tower passes are on me, anytime sir. You are welcome anytime here at TST.
