Hurricane Harvey Takes Checkered Flag at Richmond Raceway for Saturday September 2

Richmond, KY- September 1, 2017- Richmond Raceway track promoters Larry, Chad, and Sarah Yantz were set for racing action on Labor Day Weekend at the 3/10-mile semi-banked clay oval known as “The Beast of the East” on Saturday September 2 with the Four Cylinder Rumble presented by Quality Homes of KY for the Baker Iron and Metal Stock Four Cylinders, plus all other divisions. However, the remnants of Hurricane Harvey had dumped a huge amount of rain over the track and grounds on Friday and with a forecast of more into Friday night and early Saturday morning, track officials have been left with no other option but to postpone the racing events scheduled for Saturday September 2. A make-up date for this event will be announced in the near future.

Of note, Richmond Raceway has been listed for sale, but the Yantz family will conclude the 2017 racing season with the events that have been posted on the 2017 racing schedule prior to the start of the current 2017 season.

The next event on the racing schedule at Richmond Raceway will be on Saturday September 16 and will be the 3rd Annual Finn Watson Memorial, featuring the Sonic Late Models racing for $2,500 to win and the Eagle Financial Services Open Wheel Modifieds racing for $1,200 to win. Also on the Finn Watson racing program on Saturday September 16 will be the AR Bodies KDRA Super Stocks racing for $750 to win and the Baker Iron and Metal Stock Four Cylinders racing for $500 to win.

Activities for the 3rd Annual Finn Watson Memorial on Saturday September 16 will see the pit area open at 3:00 p.m., with the general admission area gates set to open at 4:30 p.m. The drivers meeting will take place at 5:45 p.m., with practice/time trial laps set to get underway at 6:15 p.m., and the first green flag to start the racing action will wave at 7:30 p.m. All times EDT. Ticket prices and purse information for the Finn Watson Memorial event will be released in an upcoming press release next week.
