    Default Smoky Mountain Speedway Harvest Festival $1,500 to win Iron-Man Mods September 23

    Smoky Mountain Speedway Harvest Festival Features Lots of Excitement on Saturday September 23rd

    MARYVILLE, TN (September 16, 2017)—The Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, Tenn. will feature lots of entertainment for all ages during the Saturday September 23rd event dubbed the Slingin’ Dirt for Vicky event and the Smoky Mountain Harvest Festival. Three racing series will converge on the Foothills of the Smoky Mountains for a thrilling night of action.

    On Saturday September 23rd starting at 2:00 pm, an all day events for the kids begins. There will be games, inflatables, face painting, pumpkin painting, giveaways, hot dogs, popcorn, funnel cakes, snow cones plus the Greenback Fire Department and the Blount County Sheriff K9 Unit will also have a Meet-N-Greet with driver autographs and a photo time with the race fans’ favorite drivers. All this will happen in the main concourse area on Saturday September 23rd starting at 2:00 pm. In addition, Southern Steel will be performing Live in the grandstand area from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm. All kids 11 and under will be admitted free into the grandstands for this event.

    The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Bonus Series presented by Sunoco Race Fuels and Tennessee RV and Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Late Model Championship Series will co-sanction the Slingin’ Dirt for Vicki event, which honors long-time race fan and Smoky Mountain Speedway supporter Vicki Duck of Rutledge, Tenn. who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 but still manages to attend races every weekend and is a strong supporter of Billy Ogle, Jr., but she enjoys all the drivers and all the races. The event will see the Super Late Models in a full program of practice, time trails, heat races, and the 40 lap, $5,000 to win/$450 to start. Billy Ogle Jr. will also carry the American Flag during the National Anthem in honor of Vicki Duck.

    Also in competition will be the Sportsman Late Models racing for $1,000-to-win and the Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified Series racing for $1,500-to-win and $150-to-start.

    As part of the Slingin’ Dirt for Vicki event, all race fans and race teams are encouraged to wear pink to show support for Vicki and there will be also be event shirts made for this event to show support for Vicki and her battle and those pink shirts can be purchased for $20. There will also be decals for the drivers’ race cars and other novelty items will also be available for purchase.

    On the Southern Nationals Bonus Series, Donald McIntosh of Dawsonville, Ga. leads the pack of Bonus Series competitors into Smoky Mountain Speedway leading the points over David Payne of Murphy, N.C. and Joey Standridge of Tellico Plains, Tenn. On the Schaeffer’s Oil Iron-Man Series, youngster Carder Miller of Salem, Va. leads the drivers into Smoky Mountain in the series point standings over Joey Standridge, Levi Ashby of Cumberland Furnace, Tenn. and Jeff Neubert of Rockford, Tenn. The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series has a very tight points battle going on with their tours racing Friday at Crossville, TN before heading to Smoky Mountain Speedway Saturday Night. Shon Flanary of Surgoinsville, Tenn. leads the points by a mere four markers over teenage Modified sensation Blake Brown of Corbin, Ky. Chris Kirk of Clay City Ky. is third in the points followed by Zach Powers of Taylorsville, Ky. fourth and veteran racer Billy Palmer of Knoxville, Tenn. fifth.

    Some bonuses have been posted for the weekend’s Modified Series action. The highest finisher of the two nights racing will receive a $300 bonus courtesy of Smoky Mountain Speedway. Also, a long haul award has been posted worth $100 to any driver that attends both events and is from the furthest distance.

    On Saturday Night September 23rd, the grandstand gates will open at 2:00 pm with activities beginning at 2:00 pm, the pit and tier parking gates will open at 3:00 pm, the drivers meeting will be at 6:00 pm and hot laps will roll out around 6:30 pm. Adult general admission for persons 12 and up will be $15.00 while children 11 and under will be admitted for free. Adult tier parking admission is $20.00 for persons 12 and up. Adult pit passes are $35.00.

    The entry fee for the Brucebilt Iron-Man Open Wheel Modified division will be $50 and the tire rule will be as follows: Front- Medium, A40S, M-30s, A40, Hard, H40, & M-60 (siping allowed on front due to carry-over from 2016 season); Rear- Hoosier A40S, M-30S, A40, Hard, H40, M-60 and American Racer Hard and Extra Hard with no grooving allowed. The only tires that can be siped on the rear is the Hoosier M-60 and American Racer Extra Hard.

    The Late Model car and driver weight rules for this event will be as follows: 2350 lbs. for an Open Motor, 2300 lbs. for a Steel Block/Aluminum Head - Spec Motor Only (8" spoiler allowed, 12" sides), 2250 lbs. for a CT525 Motor (8" spoiler allowed) and 2250 lbs. for an all Steel Motor or Crate Motor (8" spoiler allowed, 12" sides). There will be a pound per lap burnoff plus 5 lbs. in Heats, Last Chance races and in the Feature. The Late Model Series entry fee will be $100.
