$3,000 to win season opener for FASTRAK at Screven Motor Speedway on February 17th

After rain forced the cancellation of Screven Motor Speedway’s Winter Freeze, the Chevrolet Performance FASTRAK Racing Series is set to kick off the 2018 season on February 17th. James “Redd” Griffin, owner of Screven Motor Speedway, rescheduled the FASTRAK portion of the Winter Freeze as two separate $3,000 to win programs, the first being this Saturday at the Sylania, GA track. The Chevrolet Performance FASTRAK Racing Series will return to Screven on March 31st for the second race of the year, for $3,000 to win.

“We can’t thank Redd enough for rescheduling the season opener so quickly,” said FASTRAK General Manager DJ Irvine, “We are able to only delay the start of our season by one week.”

The season opener will still be run under the 2017 rule book, as FASTRAK works to finalize all 2018 adjustments. The 2018 rule book will be effective for the second race on March 31st. Furthermore, FASTRAK will use the new “A and B” format for qualifying and heat races throughout the 2018 season. The new format was introduced in the final weekend of the 2017 season at Screven Motor Speedway in November.

The Chevrolet Performance FASTRAK Racing Series announced the 2018 schedule over the weekend. The schedule features 21 points events and features over $325,000 in total purse money. FASTRAK also announced there will only be one touring region for 2018, instead of a separate Southeast and Mid-Ohio Valley tour. Drivers who wish to compete for the 2018 Championship are encouraged to fill out their membership forms, which are available online and bring them to Screven. Any driver wishing to compete for the 2018 Rookie of the Year, must apply in writing to FASTRAK officials no later than the fourth race of the season. The award for the Rookie of the Year was doubled this season to $1,000.

“2017 was a great year featuring a tight points battle throughout the year,” said Irvine, “I’m looking forward to getting 2018 started and seeing these drivers compete all year long.”

The drivers meeting is scheduled for 6:30pm on February 17th, with hot laps slated to begin at 7pm. The Chevrolet Performance FASTRAK Racing Series will run a 40-lap feature, paying $3,000 to win and $275 to start.
