A successful Nesmith World Championship weekend lays the groundwork for a busy 2018 for Tyler Bare and team(s).

The past week, found Tyler Bare and his Booper Bare owned team leave their rainy Rockbridge Baths, Virginia race shop for the sunny confines of Bubba Raceway Park in Ocala Florida. The annual February trip south, not only brings Florida temperatures and sunshine, but also adds as a reminder that the new racing season is right around the corner and fast approaching. A racing season that will add a lot of new tracks and opportunities for the 23-year-old chauffer as he splits time between the family owned car and the Bryan Klinedinst owned BK Racing No.43A.

The season started off Wednesday the 21st with a practice night as a prelude to the 3-day World Championships, that were once again sanctioned by the Nesmith Late Model Series. Tyler went out and ran over 50 laps throughout the night in his immaculately prepared Rocket XR1, finding some set-ups that worked well around the unique D shaped oval and some that were not to Tyler’s liking. By the end of the night however, Tyler had gotten himself comfortable enough to lay down the 5th fastest lap of the 40 plus competitors in attendance.

The next day found the sun shining brightly and over 50 cars in attendance for the opening night. Only 24 of those cars would get to start the 40-lap feature that would pay $2,000 to the winner. Tyler would draw a very late qualifying number that would limit his chances for a fast lap on the tricky oval. With the top 10 qualifiers automatically locked in to the feature, the other 40 plus teams would find themselves in one of the four 12-lap B-mains. By virtue of a 2nd place finish in B-Main No.4, Tyler would start the feature from the 18th place spot on the grid. From the drop of the green, the car was decent and Bare would charge towards the front in the Blue Grass Farm/May’s Recycling No.30. When the dust settled, Tyler would advance 12 spots to finish in the 6th place position.

Friday, found the same format and basically the same results, when a late qualifying run again would put him in the consolation races. Tyler would grab the last transferring spot in his B-Main, locking him into the night’s 40 lap feature. On this night, he would roll off 19th and drive an ill handling Lee-Hi Truck Parts/Conner Produce Co. mount past nine competitors and record a 10th place finish.

Saturday was a new day and the crew went to work changing the car around in an effort to find more speed in the Loco-Motives/Keyser Manufacturing Co., Rocket. A different format was on tap for the night’s 100 lap, $10,000 to win feature. Different from the previous two nights, no cars would be locked in and everyone would qualify for starting position in the 12 lap heat races. It was apparent right away that the changes the crew made were successful. Tyler would qualify 2nd in his group and back that up with a 2nd in his heat race looking him into 7th on the starting grid for the World Championships. After driver introductions and pre-race ceremonies, Tyler would pace himself, in an effort to take care of his tires for the long distance 100 lap event. Dropping back to just outside the top 10, his patience would be the key, as Tyler started his charge forward with about 30 laps left. As the race wound down, the younger Bare would turn in some of the fastest laps on the speedway, taking over 2nd from Hudson O’Neal with just a handful of laps left. Tyler would be able to close in on race long leader Kyle Bronson but would run out of laps at the end, settling for a hard fought 2nd place finish.

“The car was awesome Saturday in the World Championship” said Bare when reached via telephone Monday, while working back on the farm. “We were not very good Thursday and Friday, but my guys really worked hard Saturday and we found the speed we needed. I can’t thank them enough, they never gave up and I was happy to be able to reward everyone with a great finish. A big thanks to Mom & Dad for all their sacrifices and giving me the best equipment, they can. Mark & Steve at Rocket are behind us 100 percent and Brian (Integra) always is right there to help. I can’t wait to really get going this season. We are going to concentrate the next few weeks practicing with Bryan and his team. It is such an honor to add my name to the list of drivers who have driven that car and I’m pretty excited for what lies ahead” added Tyler.

Tyler will practice the BK Racing, Pre-Mach/Red Wing Shoes sponsored Rocket XR1 the next couple of weekends at Port Royal and Hagerstown Speedway’s in an effort to get ready for their first race weekend as a team, which is scheduled for Friday, March 23rd at Williams Grove Speedway, followed up the next night with a ULMS sanctioned race at the Port Royal Speedway.
