CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 1 of the NeSmith Weekly Racing Series is in the books, and the point standings with the winners from Friday night and Saturday night are at the top of the list in the four Weekly Racing Series Divisions. As the weeks progress in the 27-week season, the margins will begin to take shape.

There were six events in the NeSmith Chevrolet Late Model Division in Week 1 competition. Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS was the first winner of the 2018 NeSmith Weekly Racing Series Late Model season with a victory on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS.

Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS was the NeSmith Late Model Division on Saturday night at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS, and Jeff Helms of Centre, AL took the NeSmith Late Model victory at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on Saturday night.

Wil Herrington of Cochran, GA captured the NeSmith Late Model win at Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, GA on Saturday night, and Seth McCormack of Muscle Shoals, AL was the NeSmith Late Model winner on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL.

Monte Skinner of Saraland, AL was the Week 1 NeSmith Chevrolet Late Model Division winner on Saturday night at Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL. The NeSmith Weekly Racing Series Late Model Division action on Friday night at Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Savannah, GA was rained out.

Five races were completed in Week 1 for the NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division. “The Mississippi Hippie” Ricky Idom of Hattiesburg, MS took the first win of the season on Friday night at Hattiesburg Speedway. Dewayne Estes of Sturgis, MS was the winner on Saturday night in NeSmith Street Stock action at Magnolia Motor Speedway.

Jeff Crane of Gadsden, AL picked up the Week 1 NeSmith Performance Parts Street Stock Division win on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track, and Frank Wilson of Milton, FL was the NeSmith Street Stock winner on Saturday night at Northwest Florida Speedway. Wyatt Hill of Finley, TN topped a 25-car NeSmith Street Stock field on Saturday night at Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, TN.

There was a trio of NeSmith Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division races on Saturday for Week 1 NeSmith Weekly Racing Series Competition. Nick Thrash of Meridian, MS grabbed the victory at Magnolia Motor Speedway. Buddy George of Ragland, AL took the win at Talladega Short Track and Bryson Mitchell of Russellville, AL was the winner at North Alabama Speedway.

History was made on Saturday night at Talladega Short Track has they held the first-ever race for the new Crate Racin’ USA Modified Sportsman Division. Let the record show that Justin Angle was the winner of the first-ever Crate Racin’ USA Modified Sportsman race, and the answer to a future trivia question.
