Billy Workman, Jr. Bags Brucebilt Iron-Man Modified Series Win at Tri-County Race Track

BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA – May 11, 2018 – The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series would return to action after a brief layoff with the tour’s first ever appearance at Tri-County Race Track in Brasstown, NC and Billy Workman, Jr. of Mooresville, NC would lead all twenty-five laps of the event to claim the $1,553 victory.

The win by Workman, Jr. would be his first career Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series victory and would in the seat of the Ron Hornaday owned Lucas Oil, Hornaday Race Cars, ABCO Performance, Phil Bond Construction sponsored #97 Hornaday Race Car powered by an Allen Racing Engine.

Billy Workman, Jr. would take the lead at the start of the event, with Clayton Miller, Taylor Cook, Ken Schrader, and Chase King in pursuit. The first of two cautions in the event would appear on lap two when a four-car tangle in turn three involving Wayne James, Steve Clark, Greg Brown, and Tyler James would slow the action, with Clark and Brown finished for the night. The restart would see the trio of Workman, Jr., Miller, and Cook dance three-wide for the lead before Workman, Jr. regained control of the position. Meanwhile, Shon Flanary, who would slip back to seventh on the initial start, would begin working his way back toward the front as he would take the fifth position from King on lap five and three circuits later, Flanary would work under Schrader for the fourth position. Back at the front, Workman, Jr. and Miller would pull away a bit from Cook, with Miller pressuring Workman, Jr. for the lead on lap ten, but would be unable to take the spot. Flanary would continue his charge on the bottom as he would work past Cook for third on lap eleven, while King would begin to challenge Schrader for the fifth position and King would take the spot from Schrader on lap fourteen. The final caution of the event waved on lap eighteen when Shane Roberts looped his machine in turn four. This restart would see both Miller and Flanary challenge Workman, Jr. briefly for the race lead, with Workman, Jr. able to maintain the top position, while Flanary challenged Miller for the runner-up slot. The final few circuits would see Workman, Jr. stave off the challenges of Miller and Flanary to secure the win. Miller would keep Flanary at bay to finish second, while Flanary settled for third. Cook and King completed the top five. The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Austin Holcombe, Schrader, fifteenth place starter Ryan Ayers, Amos Bunch, and Wayne James.

The Brucebilt Performance Iron-Man Modified Series next event will be Saturday May 12 at I-75 Raceway in Sweetwater, TN, paying $1,000 to win.
