CARTERSVILLE, GA – Inclement weather tried to dampen the spirits of the Memorial Day Holiday racing over the three-day weekend of Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 9 competition with 15 of 23 events washed out. There were eight events completed with one on Friday night, six on Saturday night, and two on Sunday night.

Chris Kratzer of Haysville, KS opened Week 9 of the 2018 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series with a Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division win in the lone Friday night race of the Memorial Day Weekend at Salina Speedway in Salina, KS.

Friday night Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series action was rained out at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA with the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division, Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS with the Late Models , Street Stocks and the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division, Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS with the Late Models and Street Stocks, Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL with the Street Stocks, and Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Savannah, GA with the Late Models.

On Saturday night, Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division point leader Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS drove to his fourth win of the season at Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS. Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division championship contender Ricky Idom of Hattiesburg, MS captured his seventh win of the season, and Josh Thomas won the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division race.

The defending Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division National Champion Josh Leonard took the Late Model win on Saturday night at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, NE, and Cory Dumpert was the Late Model winner at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, KS. Casey Hobson picked up his fourth Street Stock win of the season at Chatham Speedway in Chatham, LA.

All four Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Divisions were in action on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. Andy Picklesimer of Ooltewah, TN was the Late Model winner, Trevor Woodard won the first of two Week 9 races in Street Stocks, Haden Duncan captured the Late Model Sportsman race, and Casey Dunavan was the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division winner.

The list of Saturday night rainouts included Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, GA with the Late Models, ECM Speedway in Arkadelphia, AL with the Late Models, Street Stocks, and Late Model Sportsman, Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, GA with the Street Stocks, Southern Raceway in Milton, FL with the Street Stocks, Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS with the Street Stocks and Late Model Sportsman, and Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL with all four divisions.

Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS was in action on Sunday night, as Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS kept his undefeated streak alive with his sixth straight Late Model win, making him a driver to watch rise up through the point standings in the coming weeks. Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL won in the Street Stocks, and Jamie Pickard of Columbus, MS took the Late Model Sportsman win.

Shannon Davis was the Late Model winner on Sunday night at Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, TN on Sunday night, and Woodard won his second Street Stock race of the weekend. Sunday night rainouts included the Street Stocks at Cochran Motor Speedway, the Late Models and Street Stocks at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, the Late Models, Street Stocks and Late Model Sportsman at Moulton Speedway in Danville, AL, and the Street Stocks at Southern Raceway.

Week 10 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series competition for the Street Stocks got off to a soggy start, as racing action at Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL was washed out on Monday night by Tropical Storm Alberto.

In the Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series National point standings through Week 9 of the 27-week season, Scarbrough holds a ten point lead in Late Models over Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS 440 to 430 points. Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS is third with 414 points, Tim Dees of Meridian, MS is fourth with 393 points, and the 2012 National Champion Chase Washington of Houlka, MS is fifth with 385 points.

Lee Ray of Columbus, MS leads the Street Stock National standings with 431 points, and Bryan Fortner of Millport, AL is four points back in second with 427 points. Idom is third with 398 points, Steve Maughan is fourth with 387 points, and Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS is fifth with 382 points.

Tody Ratcliff of Meridian, MS is the point leader in the Late Model Stock Division with 407 points, followed by Brandon Crosby in second with 389 points, Bryson Mitchell of Russellville, AL in third with 366 points, Aaron Fitzhugh is fourth with 335 points, and Blake Ray is fifth with 331 points.

Justin Angle of Anniston, AL leads the Modified Sportsman Division standings with 273 points. Andy Davis is just one point behind in second with 272 points. Chris Yarbrough is third with 234 points, Ron Bailey is fourth with 230 points, and Oakley Gillespie rounds out the top five with 187 points.
