Dennis Erb, Jr. Eager for Prairie Dirt Classic this Weekend at FALS

(CARPENTERSVILLE, ILLINOIS) Dennis Erb Racing is set to tackle the biggest race of the year in their home state of Illinois this weekend (July 27-28), as the small, quaint town of Fairbury, Illinois will roar to life for the 29th edition of the ‘Prairie Dirt Classic.’ The World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series will preside over the two-day spectacular, which will kick off on Friday night at Fairbury American Legion Speedway. Drivers will be split into four $2,500 to win qualifying features based on qualifying times with the top four finishers in each 25-lap contest automatically locked in to Saturday’s grand finale.

On Saturday evening at FALS, a trio of Last Chance Showdowns will move six more competitors into the 100-lap ‘Prairie Dirt Classic.’ The 9th Annual ‘Prairie Dirt Shootout’ for non-qualifiers will then offer the winner the option of taking a $2,000 paycheck or the final starting spot in the PDC. The action-packed weekend at the 1/4-mile bullring will then culminate with the century lap grind, which will see the victor walk away with $30,000 in front of what is sure to be a standing-room-only crowd of rabid race fans. Dennis Erb, Jr. was the 2004 ‘Prairie Dirt Classic’ winner and more recently finished second in 2015 behind Jonathan Davenport and in 2016 behind Josh Richards. Dennis and his #28 team are coming off the 8th annual running of the ‘Silver Dollar Nationals’ at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska on July 19-21. Things kicked off at the Cornhusker State facility with the $10,000 to win ‘Malvern Bank Go 50’ last Thursday. Dennis clicked off the eighteenth fastest lap in Group A during Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series qualifying prior to advancing up to third in his loaded heat race. After rolling off from the inside of the sixth row in the 50-lap feature event, the Carpentersville, Illinois standout fought hard for a top ten showing before slipping back to thirteenth at the unfurling of the checkered flag.

On Friday at I-80, two rounds of heat races - with combined passing points - took place to set the lineup for Saturday’s headliner. Dennis placed fifth in his first heat race of the evening, while he ran second in his final prelim behind only winner Don O’Neal. By virtue of accumulating the tenth most passing points during preliminary competition, Dennis earned the rights to the outside of the fifth row for the start of the $53,000 to win ‘Silver Dollar Nationals’ on Saturday night. Unfortunately, his SDN experience was a short one, as he was involved in a lap 8 wreck and retired from the 80-lap affair in the thirty-second position.
