Jimmy Mars Heads to Florence Speedway for NDLMHOF and Huge North/South 100 Week!

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) The Mars Racing team is fresh off the annual ‘USA Nationals’ weekend on August 2-4 at Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin where they vied for their third coveted wooden eagle trophy. On Thursday night in a $6,000 to win preliminary event, Jimmy Mars stopped the clock second fastest in Group B during the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series qualifying session before running second in his stacked heat race. After rolling off from the inside of the third row in the 40-lap feature event, Jimmy slipped back a few spots early in the distance before rallying to post a strong fifth place performance behind only victor Brandon Sheppard, Jonathan Davenport, Devin Moran, and Hudson O’Neal!

At CLS on Friday evening, a double set of heat races with combined passing points were held to set the lineup for the ‘USA Nationals.’ Jimmy placed sixth in his first heat race of the night, while he captured the victory in his second and final prelim. By virtue of accumulating the fifteenth most passing points during the heat races, Jimmy earned the rights to the inside of the eighth row in Saturday’s 100-lap crown jewel main event. The Menomonie, Wisconsin star then had his sights set on the hefty $50,000 windfall, but wound up retiring after only 80 circuits in the twentieth position. “We had a good run to start off our weekend at Cedar Lake on Thursday, but things just didn’t go our way on Saturday night in the big show,” quoted Mars this week via telephone. “Obviously we were hoping for a better result in the biggest race in our home state, but it just wasn’t meant to be this year. We have a quick turnaround this week for the North/South 100 at Florence and the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame deal. It is quite an honor to be inducted in what is a great class and I can’t thank everyone that has had a part in my racing career enough for their support through the years. Saturday will be a very special night for sure!”

After a couple of days off to regroup and freshen up their equipment, the #28 team will roll into the venerable Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky this week for three lucrative Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series contests. Jimmy will be in action later tonight, August 8 in the rain-postponed ‘Ralph Latham Memorial’ at the undersized 1/2-mile speedplant. A full show, which was originally scheduled for May 5, will be held tonight and a $12,000 top prize will be on the line in the 50-lap main event.

Another complete LOLMDS program will be on tap on Thursday, August 9 at the Cincinnati-area oval. The ‘North/South Shootout’ will be highlighted by another 50-lap feature event that will boast a $10,000 winner’s check. Friday’s action will include preliminary events for the 36th Annual ‘North/South 100’ headlined by two rounds of heat race action for the cars and stars racing with the LOLMDS. Passing points from each round will determine the lineups for Saturday’s consolation events and the ‘North/South 100.’

On Saturday, August 11, Jimmy will be recognized for his tremendous racing career and will be inducted into the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame in a ceremony held on the front stretch. Once each starting spot is filled following the completion of the B-Mains later that night, the ‘North/South 100’ will take center stage and a whopping $50,000 payday is once again up for grabs in the 100-lap crown jewel headliner. The hectic week of racing at Florence Speedway will then be capped off with a 30-lap, $2,000 to win Non-Qualifiers Race. Jimmy captured the win in the 2009 edition of the ‘North/South 100’ in thrilling fashion and more recently ran third in 2014 in his last ‘North/South 100’ start.
