CARTERSVILLE, GA – The Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series will head to Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, GA for a $3,000-to-win 50-lap race. A talented field of super late model drivers are ready to do battle in one of the most competitive racing series in the country in race cars powered by a production-based all-aluminum racing engines

Two-time Chevy Super Series National Champion and National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee Ronnie Johnson of Chattanooga, TN leads the point standings going into the Cochran, GA race after winning the first two races of the season, and a fourth-place finish in the third race.

Johnson won the season opener at Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA on April 13, and followed that up with his second win of the season on May 5 at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA. Johnson with 292 points holds a 12-point lead over second-generation driver Jake Knowles of Rome, GA.

Knowles won Round 3 at Smoky Mountain Speedway in Maryville, TN on June 16. That win with a pair of fifth-place finishes in Rounds 1 and 2 at Boyd’s Speedway and Dixie Speedway give Knowles 280 points. Knowles has a 16-point advantage over the third-place driver, Chip Brindle of Chatsworth, GA. Brindle has a Top 5 finish and three Top 10 finishes for 264 points.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL is fourth in the Chevy Super Series standings with 262 points, and the 16-year-old driver also leads the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year point standings. Landon Bagby of Winston, GA is fifth in the standings with 260 points.

Chase King of Seymour, TN and Joseph Brown of Columbus, GA are tied for sixth in the standings with 256 points apiece and they are also tied for second in the Rookie points. Zach Pilcher of Rome, GA is eighth with 248 points, while Dale Thurman of Cartersville, GA is ninth with 240 points, and Chad Wallace of LaGrange, GA rounds out the Top 10 with 236 points.

Other drivers expected for the Cochran Motor Speedway Chevy Super Series race include Scott Hall of Rome, GA, Dalton Polston of Lithia Springs, GA, Buster Goss of Rome, GA, Oliver Gentry of Newnan, GA, Barry Goodman of Spring City, TN, Jordy Nipper of Gray, GA, Clay Harris of Jupiter, FL, and Joshua Bishop of Statesboro, GA.

Before a wheel is turned on the race track, the cars and stars of the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series will present themselves to the race fans at Cochran Motor Speedway in the Chevy Fan Zone. This is a pre-race tradition exclusive to the Chevy Super Series as the drivers bring their race cars to the fans in the grandstand area.

Race fans can meet the drivers, get their autographs and see their dirt late model racing machines up close. The super late models in the Chevy Super Series are powered by the all-aluminum Chevrolet Performance CT525 Racing Engine that is based on the production LS3 Engine that comes in the Chevrolet Pick-Up Truck, the Chevrolet Corvette, and the Chevrolet Camaro.

The drivers will have Hero Cards to hand out to the kids, and the kids can also participate in the coloring contest, with trophies being awarded to the best rendition of their favorite Chevy Super Series race car. The Chevy Fan Zone will be from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday at Cochran Motor Speedway.

The Chevrolet Performance CT 525 is built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. The engine is available to competitors for $7,100 and $9,950 with the start-up kit from Durrence Layne Chevrolet, Buick, GMC in Claxton, GA with free next-day delivery anywhere in the Southeast.

On Saturday at Cochran Motor Speedway, the pit gate opens at 5 p.m., with Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series Pre-Race Registration and Technical Inspection from 5 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. The Drivers Meeting is set for 6:45 p.m. and Hot Laps are scheduled for 7 p.m.
