CARTERSVILLE, GA – With five weeks to go in the 2018 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season, position changes in the Top 10 of the point standings in the four Divisions are happening quickly. Week 23 of the 27-week season will be a busy Labor Day Holiday Weekend that will take place on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, with a head start on Week 24 on Monday.

Week 23 will see 15 races on the schedule of events with four races on Friday, six races on Saturday, and five races on Sunday. There will also be a pair of races on Monday to begin Week 24 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series competition.

There will be 12 races for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division, nine races for the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division, four races for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division, and one race for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division in Week 23 action.

On Friday night, Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Savannah, GA will have Double Features for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division. The first feature will be a Week 9 Make-Up Race, and the second feature will be the Week 23 race. Hattiesburg Speedway will present action for the Late Models and Street Stocks.

Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, GA will host the Street Stocks this Friday night as a part of the Chevrolet Performance Super Late Model Series race. Salina Speedway in Salina, KS will have the Late Models in action this Friday night.

Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS will highlight Saturday night Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division action with a $1,000-to-win race. Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS will have the Late Models and Street Stocks in action this Saturday night. The Late Models will also be in competition on Saturday night at Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, MS and Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, NE.

The Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division will also be in action on Saturday night with a Week 9 Make-Up Race at Southern Raceway in Milton, FL and at Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, GA.

Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS will present a $1,000-to-win race for the Late Models, plus have action for the Street Stocks and the Late Model Sportsman Division on Sunday night. Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, TN will host the Late Models and the Street Stocks, plus they have added the Late Model Sportsmen for Week 23 action on Sunday night.

ECM Speedway in Arkadelphia, AL will have competition for the Late Model, Street Stock and Late Model Sportsman Divisions on Sunday night. Talladega Short Track will be in action on Sunday night with the Late Models, Late Model Sportsmen, and the Modified Sportsmen. Southern Raceway will return with a Sunday night show for the Late Models and the Street Stocks.

Week 24 competition will begin on Labor Day Monday with Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS hosting the Street Stock and Late Model Sportsman Divisions, and Flomaton Speedway in Flomaton, AL will present the Street Stocks on Monday night.

The battle for the 2018 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Late Model National Championship is heating up to a fever pitch in the closing weeks of the season, as just two point separate the top three and 11 points separate the top five in the point standings.

Sid Scarbrough of Florence, AL leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division standings with a best 14-week total of 694 points out of a possible 700, and he will be trying to net on a 49. That means the only way Scarbrough can improve on his season total is to win a 50-point race with a field of eight or more cars.

Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS and Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS are tied for second in the Late Model standings, just two points behind Scarbrough with a best 14-week total of 692 points apiece. Ellis will be trying to net on a 45, and Russell will be trying to net on a 48.

The defending Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Late Model National Champion Josh Leonard of Gibbon, NE is fourth in the standings with a best 14-week total of 685 points, and he will be trying to net on a 45. Tootie Arnold of Meadeville, MS is fifth with a best 14-week total of 683 points, and he will be trying to net on a 47.

Ricky Idom of Hattiesburg, MS is sitting on top of the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division with a perfect best 14-week total of 700 points represented by 14 50-point wins. Idom is waiting for the window of opportunity getting smaller and smaller for his competition for the title with each passing week.

Idom could clinch soon, as Double Features opportunities end after Week 25. Lee Ray of Columbus, MS is second with a best 14-week total of 691 points, and he will be trying to net on a 49. Chad Winkles of Hartselle, AL is third with a best 14-week total of 680 points, and he will be trying to net on a 45.

David Williamson of Seminary, MS is fourth in the Street Stock standings with a best 14-week total of 673 points, and he will be trying to net on a 42. Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS is fifth with a best 14-week total of 671 points, and he will be trying to net on a 46.

Hayden Duncan of Leighton, AL is closing in on a perfect season leading the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division standings with a best 14-week total of 697 points. Duncan will be trying to net on a 48 in Week 23 competition. Bryson Mitchell of Russellville, AL is second with a best 14-week total of 690 points, and he will be trying to net on a 48.

Cole Brown of Cullman, AL is third in the Late Model Sportsman Division standings with a best 14-week total of 684 points, and he will be trying to net on a 47. Blake Ray of Russellville, AL is fourth with a best 14-week total of 676 points, and he will be trying to net on a 46. Brandon Crosby of Anniston, AL is fifth with a best 14-week total of 671 points, and he will be trying to net on a 46.

Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN continues to lead the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division standings with a best 14-week total of 614 points, and he will be trying to net on a 39. Justin Angle of Anniston, AL and Casey Dunavan of Medina, TN are tied for second with a best 14-week total of 604 points apiece.

Angle will be trying to net on a 38, and Dunavan will be trying to net on a 36. Week 23 competition for the Modified Sportsman Division will take place at Angle’s home track, Talladega Short Track, where Angle has nine wins on the season.

Another Talladega Short Track regular, Andy Davis of Odenville, AL is tied with Tracy Terrell of Russellville, AL for fourth in the Modified Sportsman standings with a best 14-week total of 598 points apiece. Davis will be trying to net on a 39, and Terrell will be trying to net on a 37.
