CARTERSVILLE, GA – The 2018 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season is beginning to wind down, but the competition for National Championships and Top 10 Points Fund paying positions is beginning to heat up and close up. Week 24 of the 27-week season will feature nine races in five different states all on Saturday night.

There will be seven races for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division, seven races for the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division, three races for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division, and one race for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division.

Camden Speedway in Camden, TN will feature all four Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Divisions on Saturday night with the Late Models, Street Stocks, Late Model Sportsmen, and the Modified Sportsmen. Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will present the Late Model, Street Stock, and the Late Model Sportsman Divisions on Saturday night.

Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, MS will move to Saturday nights with the Late Model and Street Stock Divisions. Greenville Speedway in Greenville, MS, and Southern Raceway in Milton, FL will also each host the Late Models and Street Stocks on Saturday night.

Chatham Speedway in Chatham, LA and Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, NE will each present the Late Models in action on Saturday night. Columbus Speedway in Columbus, MS will have the Street Stock and Late Model Sportsman Divisions on Saturday night, and Northwest Florida Speedway in Baker, FL will host the Street Stocks on Saturday night.

Evan Ellis of Plantersville, MS is the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division point leader with a best 14-week total of 697 points. Ellis will be looking to net on a 48, which means he has to finish first or second in a 50-point race with a field of eight or more cars to gain any points.

Ellis leads a tight trio of drivers in the top three of the Late Model National point standings that are separated by just four points. Sid Scarbrough of Florence, MS is second with a best 14-week total of 694 points, and Steve Russell of Pontotoc, MS is third with a best 14-week total of 693 points. Both Scarbrough and Russell will each be trying to net on a 49.

The defending Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Late Model National Champion Josh Leonard of Gibbon, NE is fourth in the Late Model National standings with a best 14-week total of 685 points. With four weeks to go in the 2018 season, Leonard will be trying to net on a 45 to stay in championship contention.

Tootie Arnold of Meadeville, MS and Seth McCormack of Muscle Shoals, AL are tied for the fifth spot in the Late Model standings, as each driver as a best 14-week total of 683 points. Arnold will be trying to net on a 47, and McCormack will be trying to net on a 46.

Ricky Idom of Hattiesburg, MS is the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division point leader with a perfect best 14-week total of 700 points represented by 14 50-point wins. Idom is in a waiting mode to clinch the title, as time and win opportunities are running out for the competition.

Lee Ray of Columbus, MS is second in the Street Stock National standings with a best 14-week total of 691 points, and he will be trying to net on a 49. Chad Winkles of Hartselle, AL is third with a best 14-week total of 682 points, and he will be trying to net on a 47. David Williamson of Seminary, MS is fourth with a best 14-week total of 679, and he will be trying to net on a 44. Michael Blount of Sumrall, MS is fifth with a best 14-week total of 671 points, and he will be trying to net on a 46.

Hayden Duncan of Leighton, AL leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division standings with a best 14-week total of 697 points. Duncan will be trying to close in on a perfect season total of 700 points by trying to net on a 48. Bryson Mitchell of Russellville, AL is second with a best 14-week total of 690 points, and he will be trying to net on a 48.

Cole Brown of Cullman, AL is third in the Late Model Sportsman standings with a best 14-week total of 687 points, and he will be trying to net on a 44. Blake Ray of Russellville, AL is fourth with a best 14-week total of 679 points, and he will be trying to net on a 46. Tony Shelton of Steens, MS is fifth with a best 14-week total of 677 points, and he will be trying to net on a 43.

Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division standings with a best 14-week total of 624 points, and he will be trying to net on a 39. Gillespie has a 15-point lead over a tight battle for the second spot in the standings that show just three points separating second through fifth.

Casey Dunavan of Medina, TN and Andy Davis of Odenville, AL are tied for the second spot in the Modified Sportsman standings, as each driver has a best 14-week total of 609 points. Dunavan will be trying to net on a 36, and Davis will be trying to net on a 39.

Tracy Terrell of Russellville, AL is fourth with a best 14-week total of 608 points, and he will be trying to net on a 38. Justin Angle of Anniston, AL is fifth with a best 14-week total of 607 points, and he will be trying to net on a 39.

Drivers in the Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series compete for both a track point fund and a National point fund during a 27-week season that will run through September 30. A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals will count as their National points total. The top ten drivers in each of the four Divisions will be honored at the Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series National Awards Banquet at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville, GA.
