I was after them most of the week for a total payout and they wouldn't give it.. Several others did the same.. Still nothing.. Knew right then we weren't going.. He gets a low car count he could change the payout.. It was only a $3000 to win race tonight and it was a $40 pit charge.. Yeah ok.. Love racing there.. Its a 3 1/2 hour ride but not to run 5th and get $200..
The knob used to be an awesome track always had good car counts, the Appalachia speedweek races a couple years ago had over 40 cars on a Monday night, I think when they started having the Lucus oil races they lost money on them, then started changing admission prices and purses from what they advertised, then didn't keep up with track maintenance and it's all boiled down to this, unless jones sells out that track will be a cow pasture by next season.
When Ron Brutt and Judy Gower were running the track it was a cool place. They had some really good UFO shows there. Then Rick ran the track into the ground, just like he's done with literally every other track that he's been affiliated with. He's probably the only promoter (and I use that term loosely with him) that ran two tracks on the same night of the week. What kind of promoter runs against himself? A bad one!
Word on the street was the flagman was slated to take over as promoter sometime around the middle of summer, rick jones still as owner obviously. But whatever the case I hope something works out. There certainly isnt an no overnight fix but I still have hope. I love how racy that joint can be and have seen some really outstanding races since its beginning.
