Default How much cam lift for 2.3?

I've come into two Engle hydraulic slider cams, one is .464 lift, one is .485. I've heard rumors the head needs to be milled around the valve guide area if I go over .450 lift. Any truth to that? This is in a stock hydraulic lifter D-port head. I really want to use one of these cams, I got both of them new in box for $40.

I have run .504 lift on 3 different heads without cutting the guides. Your results may be different.

If I put the cam in the head with followers and rotate it by hand can you tell if it's gonna hit anywhere? I'll have to compress the lifters to get the followers back in so it seems like I'll have lots of room until they pump up. If you've run .504 surely a .464 should work.

it will work , there are certain types of seals that the retainer might hit , but i doubt you have them , i like to mock every thing up and check coil bind and clearances........
