CARTERSVILLE, GA – Week 27, the final week of the 2018 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season will bring a furious end in the battle for the top ten points fund paying positions in the four Divisions, and a seat at the Annual Awards Banquet held at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame this January in the birthplace of American Stock Car Racing, Dawsonville, GA.

The nine race Week 27 competition will be contested over three days with two events on Friday, six races on Saturday, and one event on Sunday to bring the 2018 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season to a close.

There will be six Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division events, six Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division races, four Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division races, and two Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division races on the Week 27 schedule of events.

North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL will present the King of the Crates this Friday night and Saturday night featuring three of the four Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Divisions, and highlighted by the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour that will compete in a $5,000-to-win 60-lap main event.

The Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division will compete in feature events on both Friday night and Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway, while the Street Stocks and the Modified Sportsman Divisions will compete in preliminary events on Friday night, and feature races on Saturday night.

Oglethorpe Speedway Park in Savannah, GA will present the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division on Friday night. On Saturday night, Jackson Motor Speedway in Jackson, MS will host the Late Models, Street Stocks, and Late Model Sportsman Division.

Duck River Raceway Park in Lewisburg, TN and Southern Raceway in Milton, FL will each have the Late Model and Street Stock Divisions in action on Saturday night. Chatham Speedway in Chatham, LA has the Late Model Division in action, and Needmore Speedway in Norman Park, GA hosts the Street Stock Division.

Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL will host the final event of the 2018 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series on Sunday night. They will have all four Weekly Division in action for drivers looking for one last opportunity to earn points in the Late Model, Street Stock, Late Model Sportsman, and Modified Sportsman Divisions.

The Championships in all four divisions have been decided, but there are still several top ten points fund paying positions in all Weekly Divisions up for grabs in the final week of the season to earn Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series points.

Evan Ellis is the 2018 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series National Champion with 699 points. Steve Russell has clinched the second spot in the Late Model standings with 696 points. Sid Scarbrough is third with 694, but he will be trying to net on a 49, and a 50-point win will earn him only one point.

Fourth through tenth in the Late Model standings, and their point totals are Cory Dumpert with 689, Josh Leonard with 687, Tootie Arnold and Seth McCormack with 686, Chase Washington and Chase Walls with 680, and Shannon Lee with 677. The only driver outside the top ten of the Late Model point standings with a chance to move up is 11th place Braden Mitchell,

Mitchell has 673 points and he will be trying to net on a 46. So, a 50-point win this weekend would tie him in points with Lee at 677 points, provided that Lee fails to net on a 47. If Mitchell wins and Lee fails to finish third or better, Mitchell has the tie-breaker with more 50-point wins.

Ricky Idom has clinched the 2018 Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division Weekly Racing Series National Championship with a perfect 700 points. Second through tenth in the standings are David Williamson and Lee Ray with 692 points, Chad Winkles with 682, Mark Haddon with 676, Steve Maughan with 672, Howie Reeves and Michael Blount with 671, and Colby Brandon and Bryan Fortner with 670.

Two drivers outside the top ten of the Street Stock top ten have a mathematical chance to earn a points fund paying position. Frank Wilson and Jay Geddie are tied for 11th with 667 points apiece. Wilson can net on a 41 and Geddie can net on a 44.

Hayden Duncan is the 2018 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division Weekly Racing Series National Champion with 697 points. Second through ninth in the standings are Bryson Mitchell with 693, Cole Brown with 687, Blake Ray with 685, Tony Shelton with 677, Brandon Crosby with 674, Todd Clemmons with 663, Chace Pennington with 654, and Steve Pate with 649.

Tody Ratcliff is tenth with 646 points, and there are no other drivers outside the top ten of the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Sportsman Division standings that can net enough points to overcome Ratcliff’s point total.

Oakley Gillespie has clinched the 2018 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Weekly Racing Series title to become the first National Champion of that Division with 633 points. Second through tenth respectively are Andy Davis with 615, Casey Dunavan with 614, Tracy Terrell with 608, Justin Angle with 607, David Nichols with 577, Chris Yarbrough with 570, Luke Riddle with 508, Brent Smith with 496 and Mike Wilkins with 492.

Only one driver outside the top ten of the Modified Sportsman Division point standings has a mathematical chance to earn a top ten spot in the final 2018 point standings after the weekend’s competition is over. Ryan Sawyers is 11th in the Modified Sportsman Division standings with 485 points, and he is still earning full points.

A 50-point win by Sawyers would bring his 2018 season total to 535 points. In all fairness, Yarbrough, Riddle, Smith, and Wilkins are also competing for full points in the final week of the Modified Sportsman Weekly Racing Series 2018 season.
