Post World of Outlaws return to Smoky Mountain Speedway on March 9

Maryville, Tennessee - Smoky Mountain Speedway will get its 55th season of racing started when the World of Outlaws Morton Building Late Model Series visits on Saturday, March 9. The 6th annual Tennessee Tipoff is expected to draw some of the biggest names in racing vying for the $12,000 winner's purse.

Current World of Outlaws Morton Building Late Model Series points leader Brandon Sheppard will bring his hot streak to the historic 4/10-mile oval. Series regulars Chris Madden, Shane Clanton, Darrell Lanigan, Chase Junghans, Ricky Weiss, Dennis Erb Jr., Brent Larson, Boom Briggs, Kyle Hardy, and defending series champion Mike Marlar are expected for the first race on the new configuration at Smoky Mountain Speedway.

Other national and regional drivers expected include Scott Bloomquist, Dale McDowell, Jimmy Owens, Chris Ferguson, Shanon Buckingham, Donald McIntosh, Vic Hill, and many others.

Also racing on March 9 will be the limited late models for $1,500 to win and the Kajun Mini Stock Association for $1,500 to win.

The pit gates will open at 2:00. Tier parking and grandstand gates will open at 4:00. The drivers meeting is set for 6:00. Hot laps, time trials, and racing action will begin at 6:30.

Grandstand ticket prices are $30 for adults, kids 6-11 are $5, and children 5 and under are free. Tier parking tickets are $35 for adults, kids 6-11 are $10, and children 5 and under are free. Pit passes are $40 for adults, kids 11 and under are $20.

This will be the first event held at the newly configured Smoky Mountain Speedway. The turns have been made wider. A new pit exit in turn 2 and the construction of a new restroom building are just some of the changes being made under the ownership of Roger Sellers.

Chairs will only be allowed on the concrete areas of the grandstands. Small seatbacks and cushions are permitted elsewhere. We ask that fans that are using large chairs use the top rows to prevent blocking others view. Anyone wanting a seat on the concrete bleachers are asked to get to the track early. The grandstands can withhold large crowds, however, seating may become limited.

Smoky Mountain Speedway is located 12 miles south of Maryville, Tennessee. From Maryville, take Highway 411 south for 10 miles and turn left onto Brick Mill Road. Follow Brick Mill Road for approximately 2 miles, the racetrack is on the right. The first entrance is for grandstand parking. The second entrance is for tier parking and campground access. The pit entrance is the next right on Crye Road.
