Dereck Ramirez Wins at the Kansas State Fairgrounds
Adds a Runner-Up Finish and a Top-10 in Weekend USMTS Competition

Woodward, Oklahoma (04/29/19) – Dereck Ramirez continued his early-season surge over the weekend with a trio of strong performances in his Ramirez Motorsports No. 4r Boom Test Well Services/ Hughes Race Car/Cornett Racing Engine Open Wheel Modified.

Most notably the Oklahoma racer picked up the $3,000 victory with the United States Modified Touring Series (USMTS) on Friday night at the sprawling Kansas State Fairgrounds. It was his second triumph of 2019.

“We’ve had a pretty good start to the year, going all the way back to Arizona in January,” Ramirez said. “We’ve had a lot of speed and honestly should probably have one or two more wins. The track at Hutchinson is just massive and has got such a big wall that you always hear an echo. You're always like ‘Man, I hope somebody’s not out there on the top’ because it was kind of black up there too, but we made it work and this is awesome.

“Hopefully we can continue to build on what we have here, and put together a really great season.”

Dereck Ramirez was one of 35 United Stated Modified Touring Series (USMTS) entries signed in at 81 Speedway (Park City, Kansas) on Thursday night for the eighth annual Sunflower State Showdown. Following a fourth-place finish in his heat race, Ramirez streaked to a 15-lap consolation victory, which positioned him 14th on the starting grid for the A-Main. Breaking into the Top-10, Dereck improved seven spots in the 40-lapper to reel in a seventh-place finish.

On Saturday at Kansas State Fairgrounds (Hutchinson, Kansas) for the inaugural Salt City Assault, Dereck started his night with a heat race victory, which locked him into the pole for the feature.

Inheriting the lead on lap-15 when race-leader Rodney Sanders suffered a flat left-rear, Ramirez survived challenges from Hunter Marriott in the finals laps to capture his second win of the season and a $3,000 payday. Marriott, Jake O’Neil, Cody Schniepp, and Darron Fuqua trailed him to the checkers.

The weekend drew to a close on Saturday night with the fourth annual Night of the Stars at Longdale Speedway (Longdale, Oklahoma). Ramirez jumped up three spots in his heat race for a runner-up finish behind Ryan Gustin.

Starting on the pole for the $3,000-to-win finale, Dereck jumped out to an early race lead. He led 25 of the first 26 laps before relinquishing the top spot to Jake O’Neil. Ramirez went on to finish second behind O’Neil with Rodney Sanders, R.C. Whitwell, and Tyler Wolff completing the Top-5 finishers.

Dereck currently leads the USMTS Mid-American Series point standings and sits in sixth in the national championship rankings.
