Austin Horton Hustles to Super Late Model Win at ‘Dega
Finishes Third in Saturday Night Battle at the Hornet’s Nest

Newnan, Georgia (04/29/19) –Austin Horton had a fun weekend behind the wheel of his Vape’s Gone Wild No. 16 Wood Motorsports/ Orr’s Towing/ Super K Express/ XR1 Rocket Chassis by Clint Smith/ Vic Hill Racing Engine Super Late Model. He entered a pair of events at Talladega Short Track and came away with a win and a third-place effort to show for his efforts at the 1/3-mile oval that is known as the “Hornet’s Nest.”

“Friday night we had everything go perfectly our way. We set fast time, started on the pole, and led every lap. Honestly, the only true challenge we had the whole night was navigating lapped traffic, but once we got through it, it was smoothing sailing,” Horton noted. “On Saturday night we had a good battle with Overton and Winger at the front of the pack. If we could’ve qualified just one spot better, I think it would’ve given us a good shot to win it, but that’s the way it goes. Either way, it was a great weekend for our team.”

On Friday evening Austin Horton trekked to Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Alabama), where he was piloting his Super K Express No. 16 Super Late Model in the weekend opener. Wheeling his way to his third win of the season in the feature, Horton led every circuit from the pole position to top Josh Adkins, Dallas Cooper, and Jadon Frame, and Dillon Tidmore in the 30-lapper. He pocketed a $2,000 payday for his efforts.

Returning on Saturday evening for the Southern All Star Series sanctioned contest, Austin registered the second-fastest time in his qualifying group behind Brandon Overton. His qualifying performance positioned him third on the starting grid for the $4,000-to-win finale. Racing in the Top 5 throughout the 50 lapper, Horton posted a third-place finish behind Overton and Ashton Winger with Kyle Beard and Riley Hickman rounding out the Top-5 finishers.
