Jason Hughes Returns to Action in Triumphant Fashion
USMTS Twin Bill on Tap For This Weekend

Westville, Oklahoma (05/31/19) – After being sidelined for more than a month following knee surgery, Jason Hughes made a triumphant return over the weekend. After finishing in the second position in a thriller on Friday night at Oklahoma’s Tri-State Speedway, Hughes bounced back on Saturday night to pick up the victory at the ½-mile oval in his Henryetta Ford No. 12 Murphrey Oil Company/ Red Tail Tackle/ Hughes Chassis Modified.

“I was chomping at the bit to get back in the racecar, and we had a fun weekend at Tri-State. It was also a nice tune-up for this Saturday’s USMTS show there” Hughes reflected. “There’s a lot of big shows on the horizon for us, so we are really looking forward to this summer and getting back on the road.”

Returning to action after being sidelined from a knee surgery, Jason Hughes was one of 28 USRA Modifieds on hand at Tri-State Speedway (Pocola, Oklahoma) on Friday evening for the opening round of the Memorial Day weekend, doubleheader.

Advancing two spots in his heat race, Hughes captured an 8-lap heat race victory, which positioned him on the pole for the opening night feature. Battling with second-starting Tanner Mullens for the top spot, Hughes came up just short at the line as he was credited with a runner-up finish. Trevor Latham, Jason Payton, and Daniel Franklin trailed the lead duo to the checkers.

The following night, Hughes passed six cars in his heat race to reel in a runner-up finish behind Trevor Latham. Starting on the pole for the feature, Jason led flag-to-flag en route to his third win of the season, which came over Mike Hansen, Trevor Latham, Randy Henson, and Tyler Davis. He earned a $1,000 payday for his triumph.

The upcoming weekend has Hughes set to enter a pair of United States Modified Touring Series events in his home state. On Saturday night he’ll return to Tri-State Speedway before tackling the tight confines of Creek County Speedway (Kellyville, Oklahoma) on Sunday evening.
