ADAIRSVILLE, GA – The defending Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National Champion Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN drove the Rounder’s Sports Bar and Grill Special to his fifth win of the 2019 season on Sunday at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL The win in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series Week 14 action moved Gillespie to within 19 points of the lead.

Gillespie has 510 points after five wins, 11 top five finishes and 13 top ten finishes in 14 races over 11 weeks of competition. Luke Riddle of Hartselle, AL leads the Modified Sportsman standings with 529 points after six wins and 14 top five finishes in 14 events over 11 weeks of racing. Riddle finished fourth on Sunday at North Alabama Speedway. Gillespie and Riddle still have three more weeks to earn full points.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.

Seth Johnston of Santa Fe, TN is third in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division standings with 483 points after ten top five finishes and 11 top ten finishes in 16 events over 12 weeks of racing. Johnston finished fourth on Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN driving the Johnston Racing Special.

David Nichols of Hodges, AL is fourth in the Modified Sportsman standings with 463 points after six top five finishes and ten top ten finishes in 11 races over 11 weeks of competition. Nichols drove the Hodges Racing Special powered by a $3,595 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine to a fifth-place finish on Sunday at North Alabama Speedway.

Ron Bailey of Meridianville, AL failed to start the main event in his John’s Auto Repair Special on Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway, but still remains fifth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division standings with 437 points. Bailey has eight top five finishes and 12 top ten finishes in 15 events over 11 weeks of racing.

In other Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division Week 14 action, Ryan Sawyers of Newbern, TN drove the Sawyers Motorsports Special to a 40-point win on Saturday night at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN.

Logan Phillips of Burns, TN was the winner Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway driving the Gray Oaks Garage Special powered by a $3,595 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine. The Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division race scheduled for Saturday night at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL was rained out.
