Rodney Sanders Sweeps 11th Annual River City Rumble
Falls One Spot Short of $10,000 Gopher 50 Bonus

Happy, Texas (07/08/19) – Rodney Sanders broke out the broom in the 11th annual River City Rumble at Wisconsin’s Mississippi Thunder Speedway. Rodney claimed over $4,000 for his winning performances on Thursday and Friday night behind the wheel of his Wichita Tank Racing No. 20 Kenny’s Tile/ ARMI Contractors/ MB Customs Modified.

On Saturday evening he finished one spot short of a $10,000 bonus during the Modified portion of the 40th annual Gopher 50 at Deer Creek Speedway.

“We had great weekend of racing. We were able to sweep both nights at Mississippi Thunder Speedway, and then we came real close to a big payday on Saturday night at Deer Creek Speedway,” Sanders noted. “The track at Deer Creek was in great shape, and I had a really good car, so I thought it was worth taking a shot at the bonus. We started in the 12th position and got to second, which left us just short of winning the bonus money. It was a bummer, but still a great night.

“I would like to thank everyone that helps our racing program. We’ve got a lot of great folks behind us, who make this all possible.”

Thursday night found Rodney Sanders in action at Mississippi Thunder Speedway (Fountain City, Wisconsin), where he was piloting his ARMI Contractors No. 20 Open Wheel Modified during the opening round of the 11th Annual River City Rumble.

In a field of 23 USRA Modifieds, Sanders passed five cars in his heat, reeling in a third-place finish. Starting on the pole for the opening night feature, Rodney cruised to his fourth win of the season, which came over Brandon Davis, Dustin Sorenson, A.J. Diemel, and Darrell Nelson.

Returning on Friday evening, Rodney jumped up one spot in his heat race to pick up the 8-lap victory. Receiving the fourth-starting position for the finale, Sanders outran Ryan Gustin in the 30-lapper to capture his fifth win of the season and a $3,000 payday. Gustin, Brandon Davis, Darrell Nelson, and Cory Crapser trailed him to the checkers.

On Saturday night a $5,000 winner’s check was up for grabs during the 40th annual Gopher 50 at Deer Creek Speedway (Spring Valley, Minnesota). With 37 entries on hand, Rodney earned a spot in the feature redraw, via his heat race performance. With a $10,000 bonus on the line, courtesy of Tralo Companies, for any driver, who would forfeit his spot in the redraw to start on the sixth row for the 35-lap feature, Sanders accepted the challenge.
The Texas native started 12th on the grid and quickly began clawing his way forward in the pack. Late in the race he worked his way into second, but was unable to reel in Dustin Sorenson. Zack VanderBeek, Brandon Davis, and Josh Angst completed the Top 5.
