ADAIRSVILLE, GA – The battle for the 2019 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National Championship continues with Week 19 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series competition in the 27-week season. The top five drivers in the point standings have reached the 14-week mark of their respective seasons and will try to net points this weekend.

There are five events on the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division Week 19 schedule. North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL will host a special Friday night Week 16 Make-Up Race. All drivers in the Modified Sportsman Division are eligible to earn Week 16 points.

North Alabama Speedway will come back on Saturday night to host Week 19 competition. Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division Saturday night Week 19 races will also be held at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN.

Luke Riddle of Hartselle, AL is the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division point leader going into Week 19 action. Riddle has a best 14-week total of 674 points, and he will be trying to net on a 40. If Riddle can capture a 50-point win, he will add ten points to his season total.

The defending Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman National Champion Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN is second in the standings, seven points behind Riddle with 667 points. Gillespie will be trying to net on a 34. A 50-point win will earn a net of 16 points for Gillespie. David Nichols of Hodges, AL is third with 601 points, and he will be trying to net on a 36.

Seth Johnston of Santa Fe, TN is fourth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings with 575 points. Johnston will be trying to net on a 38. Ron Bailey of Meridianville, AL rounds out the top five with 574 points, and he will be trying to net on a 25. Drivers in sixth through 12th in the point standings have one to four more weeks to earn full points.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point finish each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.
