ADAIRSVILLE, GA – The battle for the 2019 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National Championship goes into Week 20 of the 27-week Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season with five races on the schedule of events. There will be one race on Friday night and four races on Saturday night.

The lone Friday night Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division race will be a big one. Tennessee National Raceway in Hohenwald, TN presents the $811-to-win 2nd Annual Melissa Cothran Memorial Race.

Saturday night for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division will be highlighted with the $800-to-win Open Wheel Modified Mania at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. Week 20 races will also be held at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN, Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL, and Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN.

Luke Riddle of Hartselle, AL leads the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 689 points. Riddle will be trying to net on a 47 in his next race, which means he has to finish third or better to gain any points on his best 14-week total. Riddle will take a slim three-point lead in the National standings into Week 20 competition.

The defending Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National Champion Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN is second in the National standings with a best 14-week total of 686 points. Gillespie will also be trying to net on a 47. Chuckie Gipson of Tuscumbia, AL is third with a best 14-week total of 620 points, and he will be trying to net on a 39.

David Nichols of Hodges, AL is fourth in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 613 points. Nichols will be trying to net on a 37. Darren Jewell of Russellville, AL rounds out the Top 5 in the National standings with a best 14-week total of 603 points, and he will also be trying to net on a 37.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point finish each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.
