ADAIRSVILLE, GA – Durrence Layne Racing officials have announced that Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC will host a $5,000-to-win race for the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division on September 5, 6, and 7. The $5,000-to-win Cherokee Street Stock Pow Wow will now become what is the second jewel of the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division Triple Crown.

The first jewel of the Durrence Layne Street Stock Triple Crown will take place on August 14-17 with the $5,000-to-win 7th Annual Durrence Layne Chevrolet Southern Street Stock Nationals at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS. The third Triple Crown jewel will happen on December 26 with the $5,000-to-win 4th Annual Durrence Layne Chevrolet Street Stock World Championship Race.

“We’ve been talking about doing this for a while now, as we’re looking to take three Divisions we run here and combine them into one Division,” Cherokee Speedway Promoter Scott Childress said. “This race is a good way for us to test the waters, and we’ve been getting some positive feedback from the competitors in the Carolinas to go with the Durrence Layne Street Stock rules.”

The Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division was born in 2012 when Durrence Layne Racing officials met with officials of the Mississippi Street Stock Series and several track promoters in Mississippi and Alabama to come up with a common set of rules using one tire, and two engine options.

The Hoosier H500 became the series tire, and the $3,595 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine with a four-barrel carburetor and a “Built” engine running on a two-barrel carburetor became the two engine options.

Since its inception in 2012, the Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division has become a fan favorite known for close and entertaining racing. The Chevrolet Performance 602 Engine has also become the engine of choice among the competitors with its affordability, as well as its quick and easy accessibility.

The Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stock Division as a part of the Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series has grown to surpass the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Late Model Division in competitor participation, and now is sanctioned in seven different states that include Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, and now South Carolina.

The $5,000-to-win Cherokee Speedway races will consist of a practice session on Thursday night, September 5. The Durrence Layne Performance Parts Street Stocks will participate in preliminary Qualifying and Heat Races on Friday night, September 6. The B-Main Races and the $5,000-to-win Main Event will be run on Saturday night, September 7.
