Oil cooler
How many of you run an oil cooler on a 604Crate?
-
I would say it's close to 50/50 in my estimate or probably closer to more don't. If you don't, you need to use a really good synthetic oil like Gibbs or it will be burn in a short time.
-
its overkill. high rpm and big lift make valve spring heat, which creates oil heat, which 604 have neither. Get a good oil, Maxima is a great product and what we sell, and forget about it
-
just install a cheap oil temp gauge and then you will know if you need one or not , most will not........

We ran all steel 358 2bbl roller motors on gas for about 15 years never had a oil cooler. Ran Mobil 1 never had a oil related failure. Oil temp gauge would be buried in a heavy heat race but would run about 30 degrees higher than the water feature time. Mobil one is good for something like 450°f before it starts breaking down or coking

Never ran one on the 604 crate car, but the cooling system keeps the car at 210...MAX running on wide open tracks, and pulls down to 190 quickly when the nose comes up under caution, Mobil1 oil.

we run the long tube type.

Not all oils that claim to be "synthetic" are actually synthetic. In the late 1990's, castrol introduced castrol synthetic, which was actually just a hydrocracked base oil. A huge lawsuit by mobil followed, and the judge ruled that "synthetic" was actually just a "trade" term. Anyways, now the word synthetic is just a marketing term.
