ADAIRSVILLE, GA – It’s all tied up at the top of the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National point standings with seven weeks to go in the 2019 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season. Luke Riddle of Hartselle, AL and the defending National Champion Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN each have 689 points as the co-point leaders after Week 20 action.

Gillespie drove the Rounder’s Sports Bar and Grill Special powered by a $3,595 Chevrolet Performance 602 Circle Track Engine to his seventh win of the season on Friday night at Tennessee National Raceway in Hohenwald, TN. Gillespie was able to net on a 47 and gain three points on his best 14-week total.

Riddle, on the other hand, was unable to net any points in Week 20 competition, and he stayed at a best 14-week total of 689 points. Riddle had his first “Did Not Finish” in 21 races thus far this season on Saturday night at North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL. The results show he was disqualified for getting out of his race car and on to the racing surface.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 27-week season that concludes on September 29.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point finish each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.

In other Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division Week 20 action, Ryan Sawyers of Newbern, TN took his fourth win of the season on Saturday night at Camden Speedway in Camden, TN. Joseph Champion of Anniston, AL was a first-time winner this season at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL on Saturday night driving the Randy’s Tree Service Special.

Bryce Trull of Lobelville, TN drove the Trull Racing Special to his first Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division win of the season on Saturday night at Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN.
