Thumbs up Saw this on Twitter just a little while ago and decided to ask you folks here.

Though this was a great question.

Saw this on twitter just a little while ago and decided to ask you folks here.

If you had unlimited funds to field a race team and could pick only one underfunded driver from any era, who would you put behind the wheel?

REMEMBER QUESTION STATES ANY ERA; NOT JUST THE PRESENT ERA.

I know my answer and I'll post it later on. See how many of you remember him.

He took over his Dad's Metal & Sheet Metal business in Hammond, Indiana. He had good backing from his dad but never great backing. Shawn had a ton of talent. I would love to see him take one more shot at Late Model racing.

I have been going to dirt tracks for 67 years, 81 now and still going, Ronnie Johnson is the best driver I have ever seen. Back in 1951 Freddy Fryer was pretty good...

Yes he did. Shawn had always been very good at keeping his cool. It Started at Brownstown where Tony drove Shawn dirty and darn near wrecked him. Then did it a few weeks or so later at Vermilion County Speedway. Shawn went after his butt and had to be held back from beating Tony's rear end all over the pits area. It was funny. The one time Tony was legitimately chicken. Shawn's sister and I were talking about it at Fairbury last year during the PDC. She was sitting right in front of me.

Honestly, probably my Dad. He did very well in semi lates, and then had a very short stint in a John Rebhan car. He’s a millionaire who has since passed, owned a steel mill. My Dad was under the impression the guy he was driving for owned the car, he did not. John still did. It was an older car that was sitting in the steel mill and John didn’t care if they got it going. Well they did, and they were running better than his Warren Fab cars, so he took it back.

His longer stint in a late model, it was owned by a guy who thought he knew everything. He did not. It was a Hover Chassis. It flexed too much. So after like a year and a half, he said fuk it. Guy wouldn’t listen, my Dad had a great crew chief who used to help Junior Dunleavy in Virginia. Guy had awesome stories, but he also didn’t give a crap. If you didn’t listen to him, he would just stop helping. Or gave him crap, he’d just walk away. All they wanted to do was stiffen the car, he wouldn’t let them. So they walked away. He tried a couple times to race it himself, where as my Dad was top 5, he couldn’t keep it on the track. But they couldn’t win with the chassis as it was.

He also had the opportunity to have Hutter build his motors. Ron Hutter actually approached my Dad, and in his screwed up logic, Chardon was too far.

Bill Gabrielson Sr.-raced from 1971-1987. Asphalt and dirt semi late championships. Raced in Ohio, Boro, and Florida.

If I was to start up a team I would probably take Wesley Hood out of Spartanburg SC. I remember in the late 90s he would come to Gaffney every Saturday night and be running up front and being tough to get around and then one day he just walked away and I still don't know why he did it
