ADAIRSVILLE, GA – Five races at three tracks over three days will make up Week 23 of the 2019 Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series season for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division. Two of the five races will be Make-Up Races that could make for an interesting weekend in the 2019 Championship battle that has just one point separating the top two drivers.

The two Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division Make-Up Races will be held on Friday night. North Alabama Speedway in Tuscumbia, AL will host a Week 22 Make-Up Race, and Thunderhill Raceway in Summertown, TN will have a Week 1 Make-Up Race.

Both North Alabama Speedway and Thunderhill Raceway will return on Saturday night for Week 23 races. Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, AL will host a Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division Week 23 race on Sunday night.

Luke Riddle of Hartselle, AL holds a one-point lead over the defending Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National Champion Oakley Gillespie of Five Points, TN. Riddle has a best 14-week total of 692 points, and he will be trying to net on a 48. Gillespie has a best 14-week total of 691 points, and he also will be trying to net on a 48.

Blake Cross of Centerville, TN is a distant third in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 635 points, and he will be trying to net on a 39. One point behind Cross is Chuckie Gipson of Tuscumbia, AL, who is in the fourth spot with a best 14-week total of 634 points, and he will be trying to net on a 42.

David Nichols of Hodges, AL rounds out the top five in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National standings with a best 14-week total of 626 points. Nichols will be trying to net on a 41 in Week 23 competition.

Drivers racing in Durrence Layne Weekly Racing Series events compete for both a Track point fund and a National point fund. Drivers compete against drivers racing at Durrence Layne Racing sanctioned tracks across the country using a National points system over a 29-week season that concludes on October 13.

A driver’s best 14 weekly point totals count as their season total. Once a driver reaches 14 weeks of competition, they start trying to net points by replacing the lowest weekly total among their best 14 weekly totals with a higher one. A driver can only count their best point total each week as their total for that week.

The top ten drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division National point standings will earn a seat at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet to receive a point fund check and a trophy.

The top 11 drivers in the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Modified Sportsman Division point standings have reached the 14-week mark of their respective seasons. Drivers 12th on back are still earning full points, and with Make-Up Races in play this weekend, can change the look of the Top 10 come Monday morning.
