    Default Purse payout

Hard to believe that such a huge event as the 40th annual Jackson 100 only payed $3,000 for 4rth position....

It is hard to believe! It's getting better though. PDC went up (on the top end) but I think Florence and Cedar Lake have upped their purse towards the backend recently to $3,000 to start. It would be nice to see that at $5,000 for these big races but it seems to be getting better. The economy is coming back and people are spending more money which is a good thing.

People unfortunately judge races by the winners purse$$. The Dolly Parton purses do not help the sport. Only one team benefits from that. Paying better throughout the field leads to more teams willing to travel and compete if they think it makes sense $$$ wise. You must remember only one car wins. If local teams don't think they can make the race they will quit supporting the special races. Of course I have no idea how a local race team can make any money. They must all do it for the thrill and the love of the sport.

They do pay attention to what a race pays to start and what it pays through the field. The days of “for fun” aren’t exactly around anymore. Ya gotta recoup some of your losses.

And the Dolly Parton purses should change. Don’t pay $100k to win & $20k for second. Make it a percentage throughout. From say 60% down to 10%-5%.

Nobody believes you can race these expensive late models for fun. Thats not even a reasonable statement.

Then why are dudes racing weekly for 1000 bucks and not racing when there’s a race paying well within an hour or two..

That weekly $1000 is often less of a loss than a bigger race elsewhere. A weekly race doesn't have an entry fee, doesn't have jacked up pit passes, and is a single night. Specials usually have an entry fee, the pit passes are usually another ten dollars more than a weekly race, and some specials are qualifying one night, and feature the next. Specials often aren't much better than a weekly race outside the top five.
