ADAIRSVILLE, GA – Wet grounds and a forecast with a high percentage of rain in the coming days have forced officials to cancel this weekend’s Possum Town Grand Prix for the Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, MS. That ends the 2019 season for the series and Jake Knowles of Rome, GA is the National Champion.

It’s the second year in a row that rain has washed out the Possum Town Grand Prix. Last year’s cancellation cost Knowles a chance to win the title, but this year’s washout worked to seal the deal for the second generation driver.

In 17 races, Knowles had 1,610 points with seven wins, 14 top five finishes and 17 top ten finishes driving the Knowles Race Parts and Bodies Longhorn. Knowles will receive a $10,000 check along with the Durrence Layne Cup at the Durrence Layne Racing Annual Awards Banquet on January 25 at the Gatlinburg, TN Convention Center.

Cruz Skinner of Oxford, AL will be the 2019 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Championship Runner-Up, and the Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year. The 17-year-old driver had one win, ten top five finishes and 15 top ten finishes to accumulate 1,504 points in 17 races driving the Skinner’s Body Shop Rocket and Capital Race Car.

Oakley Johns of Hohenwald, TN will finish third in the 2019 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point standings with 1,394 points, and Wil Herrington of Hawkinsville, GA will take the fourth spot with 1,374 points. Tyler Wood of Hohenwald, TN will be fifth with 1,364 points, and T.J. Brittain of Center, AL finishes sixth with 1,320 points.

Marcus Minga of Shannon, MS will finish seventh in the 2019 Durrence Layne Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National point standings with 1,224 points, and Jake Rainey of Hiram, GA will take the eighth spot with 1,162 points. Donald Johns of Summertown, TN finishes in the ninth spot with 948 points, and Jadon Frame of Decherd, TN rounds out the Top 10 with 898 points.
