Overton Enjoys Two-Win Weekend in South Carolina
DirtonDirt.com Shootout at Senoia On Deck

EVANS, Ga. (05/05/20) – For the first time in over a month, Brandon Overton returned to competition, and done so in triumphant fashion with two wins in South Carolina.

Brandon drove his Wells Motorsports No. 76 Crossfit Overton/ Allstar Concrete/ Longhorn Chassis by Wells/ Cornett Racing Engine-powered Super Late Model to a $5,000 victory on Friday night at Lancaster (S.C.) Speedway. He followed that with a $10,000 payday on Saturday night at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, S.C.

Overton began the weekend with a trip to Tri-County Racetrack (Brasstown, N.C.) on Thursday evening for the Schaeffer Oil Tar Heel Invitational. In a field of 25 cars, Overton logged the 16th fastest time in qualifying before placing fourth in his heat race.

Starting the $4,000-to-win A-Main in 14th, Brandon charged forward nine spots in the 40-lap affair to register a fifth-place finish behind race winner Shane Clanton, Donald McIntosh, David Payne, and Casey Roberts.

The following night found Overton at Lancaster Speedway for the Carolina Clash Super Late Model Series-sanctioned Lancaster Lidlifter. Brandon timed in second fastest in time trials behind Ross Bailes, locking him into the second starting position for the A-Main.

Taking command of the lead on the third lap, Overton charged to his third win of the season over Bailes, Jonathan Davenport, Michael Brown, and Jeff Smith. Building a 6.094 second margin over Bailes, Brandon earned a $6,335 payday after picking up an additional $1,335 crowd-funded bonus.

“I had to redeem myself from night,” said Overton. “If I was gonna win one this weekend I figured it was gonna be Tri-County. I guess it just knocked me back down to reality a little bit (after finishing fifth). We had to go back to work on our race car and I felt like we had it pretty good tonight.”

Closing out the weekend on Saturday, Overton headed to Cherokee Speedway for the Palmetto Invitational. After topping the 36-car field in time trials, Brandon picked up a 10-lap heat race victory, which positioned him fifth on the starting grid for the main event.

Slowly climbing into a podium spot and tracking down race-long leader Casey Roberts, Overton took advantage of Roberts’ slip-up on the final lap to secure his second win in as many nights and a $10,000 payday. He took the checkers ahead of Chris Madden, Kyle Strickler, Derrick Ramey, and Anthony Sanders.

“I’m sure everybody’s gonna say I wrecked him, but he missed the bottom (in turn one),” Overton said. “It’s 10 (not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word)(not a nice word) grand, you know what I mean? Like, he missed the bottom, and I stuck it in there, and we met. He was coming back down the hill and I’m not gonna let off, you know what I mean?

“Hey, we got together,” he added. “I’m sure he’s pissed off, but I don’t know what you do. I don’t know. I don’t ever want to see somebody lead the whole race and lose it on the last lap, but hell … what do you do?”

“I’m just glad my car’s been good here lately, the last couple nights,” said Overton. “I can’t thank everybody enough for all the help, all the support.”
