Rod Conley Gets Top Ten in Atomic Lid Lifter; Conley’s Split Up this Weekend

(WHEELERSBURG, OHIO) All four Conley Motorsports, Inc. (CMI) pilots found their way to Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio on Saturday evening, June 20 for the track's season opening event. A strong contingent of 35 competitors showed up at the former K-C Raceway for the unsanctioned special, which boasted a $3,000 winner's check. Rod Conley enjoyed the best finish of the quartet of drivers - even though his top ten effort did not come easy. After running second in his heat race, "Hot Rod" unfortunately slipped off the track, brought out a caution, and rallied to salvage a solid ninth place showing from the tail of the field.

The patriarch of the racing Conley family, Delmas Conley, won his heat race in preliminary action, but was spun from behind at the outset of the race and collected in a wreck. The Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer was forced to retire from the 25-lapper in the nineteenth finishing position. R.J. Conley earned Fast Time honors during the qualifying session and won his heat race, but unfortunately broke a valve spring in the powerplant and was forced to scratch from the headliner. Young J.T. Conley placed fifth in his stacked heat race, but rolled the left rear tire off the rim in his B-Main and was not able to put his #71j into the feature field. Three of the #71 teams will be back in racing action in southern Ohio on Saturday night, June 27, as J.T. plans to take the weekend off. Delmas and R.J. will both take their racing talents to the nearby Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio for the track’s season lid lifter, which will pay $2,000 to the winner. Rod will return to Atomic Speedway in Alma, Ohio on Saturday for another unsanctioned program paying $2,500 to the victor.
