Jimmy Mars Streaks to Twin Ports Twin 25 Victory; Looks for Third USA Nationals Title!

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) The Mars Racing team enjoyed a hectic stretch of racing action from July 28-August 4, as they entered events across the states of Iowa and Wisconsin. On Tuesday night, July 28, the team dropped into Davenport Speedway to compete in a $10,000 to win World of Outlaws Late Model Series special on the 1/4-mile track at the Davenport, Iowa facility. Jimmy Mars timed in only tenth fastest in Group B during qualifying, but later advanced up to third in his loaded heat race. After rolling off from the outside of the sixth row in the 50-lap main event, Jimmy roared past eight competitors during the entertaining contest to leave the Hawkeye State with a sterling fourth place effort behind only race winner Brandon Sheppard, Cade Dillard, and Jimmy Owens!

Over the weekend, the Menomonie, Wisconsin star found himself in competition at Gondik Law Speedway in Superior, Wisconsin and Rice Lake Speedway in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. On Friday in the annual 'Twin Ports Twin 25s' in Superior, Jimmy ran third in his heat race prior to passing seven competitors during the first 25-lapper to finish a strong runner-up behind only winner James Giossi. After a 15-car invert for the second feature, Jimmy stormed from the outside of the seventh row to lead the final four circuits to land his second triumph of the 2020 season. The popular driver known as the "Iceman" beat Rick Hanestad, Mike Prochnow, Deven VanHouse, and Jeffrey Massingill to the checkers to claim the $2,020 payday!

At Rice Lake on Saturday in the 4th edition of the 'Mahder 55,' Jimmy was looking for his fourth straight victory in the event, which is normally held at his hometown Red Cedar Speedway. After picking up a heat race win, Jimmy moved up to as high as second in the running order before slipping back to fourth at the checkers to trail only $5,555 winner Kevin Adams, A.J. Diemel, and Darrell Nelson. Action then continued for Mars Racing on Tuesday evening, August 4 at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, but Jimmy unfortunately suffered terminal issues early in the night and was forced to scratch from the $10,000 to win World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series program. The whirlwind stretch for the #28 team will continue with a visit to the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway from August 6-8 for the 33rd edition of the ‘USA Nationals.’ The three-day extravaganza at the New Richmond, Wisconsin venue will start later tonight with a $6,000 to win preliminary program, which will be sanctioned by the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series. A double set of heat races and a dash will then be held at the 3/8-mile oval on Friday setting the stage for Saturday’s annual ‘USA Nationals’ grand finale. The 100-lap crown jewel spectacular once again boasts a whopping $50,000 top prize, while each feature starter will receive at least $3,000.

Jimmy, who will also compete in the weekly CLS Late Model division races on Friday and Saturday, comes into the lucrative weekend seeking his third race title, as he picked up the winner’s spoils in the storied event back in 1996 & 2009.
